Help finding Sicilian Great Great Grandfather's Birth Record

Post by ProfessorPCB »

Hello out there!

I am deep into research on my husband's family from Sicily. His great grandfather was Angelo Giuffrida (Am. Joefreda, Ciufrida). He was born in Sicily around 1862-1863; we don't know the town. His first-born son was named Frank, his first-born daughter Angela. Therefore, I think I'm looking for an Angelo born to a Francesco Giuffrida who married an Angela. I've tried all of the searches possible on Ancestry and FamilySearch to find a birth or marriage record for him.

A couple of Ancestry trees in the family have Angelo's father listed as Francesco Ciufrida b. Corleone 1866, m. Angela Labaozza. Neither one gives a source or responds to inquiries about sources for this information.

I have searched for birth records for Angelo Giuffrida. Most of the Giuffridas are in Catania, so I did a thorough search of the Catania Nati records in Antenati for 1862-1863. I found one Angelo Giuffrida with an unknown father, but his mother's name was Agata.

I've run into difficulty searching the Corleone birth records because they seem to be available in digital editions only until 1865. I did try to find parish records and found only San Martino. No luck there. Any advice on how to find 1866 birth records for Corleone?

I also found through FamilySearch, in searching Angelo Giuffrida and Francesco Giuffrida with no dates, that both names turn up often in Leonforte. I searched birth records in Antenati for Leonforte 1863-1866, but a critical year, 1862, is weirdly missing. (All the years around it are there.) Any suggestions as to how I might find those records? Apparently the parish records are available only in Salt Lake City on micro-film or fiche.

I would appreciate any help anyone can offer!

Thank You!

Where in USA did they settle?

Do you have a year of birth and place of birth for Frank?
