Help translating baptismal record for Briganti

Post by italian059 »

Would someone please translate this record. Not sure if it is even for a boy or a girl or if the parents are correct. Thanks so much. It is for a Briganti. Think the child's name is Paula or Paolo????

Date of baptism "under condition": Oct 14, 1731
Paolo Serafino Giovanni, son of Antonino, and Giuseppa Cella (?), born on day 12, and already baptized by the midwife.
Godparents were Giacomo Di Puma, and Anna Maria, Giovanni Murdello(?)'s wife
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi

Pippo,
Thanks so much. Do you think this Paolo is the son of Antonino and Giuseppa from the marriage record I posted previously? Was that normal for a midwife to baptize a child?

Mary

A midwife, at the time, was authorized by the church to baptize an infant that she had helped to deliver, if the newborn was in imminent danger of dying before it could be presented in the church to be baptized by the priest. Not sure if there were other conditions under which she would have had the same authorization.

Thanks Erudita. Looked for a death record but didn't see one so I imagine this is the right person. I asked Pippo if he thought this marriage record and the baptismal are for the same person. Haven't heard back yet. What do you think?

Mary,
this baptism is for Paolo Serafino Giovanni, son of Antonino and Giuseppa
the marriage record was for Antonino, son of Gaspare and Vincenza
So, there seem to be no contact between the two, except the surname
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi
