Seaman's Certificate
I'm trying to understand the middle section of this document under "Proofs Submitted". I read "Discharged U.S. Naval Hospital League Island PA, Dec 11/29". What does the writing above mean? Is it a reference to someone else, or does it refer to the applicant?

Re: Seaman's Certificate
My guess it was his ship's admiral. But that's just a guess...darkerhorse wrote: 02 Nov 2025, 20:26 I'm trying to understand the middle section of this document under "Proofs Submitted". Re: Seaman's Certificate
I agree that it appears to be a signature of a superior officer.
And also Stephen Guarino's service #
This certificate would act as is a passport for seamen.
Here is the related document with passport numbers listed on left...and notation along right bottom.
The passport # matches

Thanks. Can you post the document. I don't have the right access to Ancestry.com.Tessa78 wrote: 02 Nov 2025, 20:48 I agree that it appears to be a signature of a superior officer.

Re: Seaman's Certificate
Is there a place online to find U.S. Navy Hospital records?
Was it usual practice to visit a hospital upon discharge, or does this not suggest illness or injury?

Re: Seaman's Certificate
His obituary reads that he served in the Navy in WWII, retiring as a lieutenant commander. I'm interested in the different ranks he had, and what the dates of his promotions were.

Re: Seaman's Certificate
I've already checked the archives and Fold3 with no luck.

Have you tried the National Archives?

Do not forget that you have his Service # on the application you posted.
