Cappiello
Does anybody have any information on "John Cappiello", born in Potenza, Italy in 1890? Parents names are listed as Benjamin & Josephine Cappiello.
Re: Cappiello
Hi squeaner75,
Welsome to the forum.
Can you tell us your search goals? Are you looking for US records and/or Italian records?
What records have you obtained for John Cappiello? Birth certificate? Death certificate?, Ship manifest? Naturalization record? Church records? Others?
The more info you can provide, will help us locate records on the correct family.
When did he arrive in the states? Where did he settle? Wife's name, her year of birth? Children names & birth years? Did his parents also come to the states?
Let us know.

Hi jcsm400
I really appreciate the help. You're on the right track! That is the correct John Cappiello. I have located a copy of his marriage license to my grandmother, Rosa Nicolette. They were married March 1, 1927. I found this on local courthouse records for Harrison County, WV. (www.wvculture.org) His parents names are listed as Bennie & Josephine Cappiello. This license also indicates he was married previously.
I also found a register of his death on court records. This is where I found his birthplace listed as Potenza Italy, Oct. 26, 1890., date of death June 11, 1954. Occupation, coal miner.
I didn't know when he arrived in the US. Thanks for the info.!

I guess other information I would like to find is,
1) the name of his 1st wife & if they had children
2) if he had brothers/sisters & where they located
3) maiden name of his mother
4) did his parents come to the US
Any additional information is greatly appreciated!

Hi,
The LDS Church (Mormans) have filmed the civil (vital) records for Potenza, Potenza, Italy for 1809 thru 1910.
Here is a link to the available films.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... ato+civile++
Your really lucky, they have also filmed the Catholic church records for Potenza. There were three churches.
Santissima Trinità1572-1895
San Michele Arcangelo 1580-1873
San Gerardo 1600-1872
You can get the film information for the church records from your local LDS-Family History Center. The volunteers are very helpful.
Here is a link to locate your nearest FHC.

And here is a link on the process of ordering the films, porvided by our member, Trish, a professional genealogist.

Maybe he married his 1st wife in Potenza.
If you have any questions, just ask.

Re: Cappiello
Wow... Thanks to all of you for the information! It just keeps getting
more interesting. My mother thanks you also. She was only 2 yrs. old
when her father died. So alot of this is new information to her.
One question for jcsm400, how can I obtain a clearer copy of the 1930 census? No matter what I try, I can't seem to magnify the text & it remain legible.
Thanks again to all! Any more info. is greatly appreciated!

squeaner75:
thanks to the assistance of the dedicated folks at this site, and a few hours reviewing lds microfilm, i have been able to find a tremendous amount about my italian relatives. in the course of that effort, i have discovered that some of my relatives are also cappiello's, although i do not know from whence they came in italy as i am just starting that journey for that line.
my g-g-grandmother was named vincenza cappiello who was married to a michele pacelli. around the turn of the 20th century they lived in dragoni where she died in 1903. her parents were nicola cappiello and teresa casabura. in your review of cappiello information in potenza please let me know if you come across any of these names.
good luck in your search.

The only thing I know is to save it on your computer & then "play" with it in your photo program. At least when saved, you can magnify it for easier viewing......There is a post on this subject.
May want to pm member Nuccia or rfornal, who can advise better on computer stuff.

Hi Tom,
I haven't ran into that name yet, although like yourself, I'm just getting started. I will let you know if I cross those names though. Happy searching!
