Hi i'm knew here, and i would like to find out about the name Cossari.

His name was Nicola Cossari that left Stefanaconi in 1913, aged 33, and went to Argentina. Then he went to Brazil and was never heard from again. I want to know if Nicola Cossari had any children, or another wife.

I know this is going to be difficult because in Brazil there are over 25 million Italians, there with probably the same name.

But my Grandmother is really dying to know.

I went onto the Ellis Island website where i found that he arrived in Ellis Island. but i think there is no match, unless the ship he went on went to America instead of South America. But i don't know.

All my grandmother told me that he went and was attacked by a gang in Argentina, then went to Brazil to find them, and was never ever heard from again.

I don't found nobody Nicola Cossari travelling for Argentina or Brasil until 1920.... what it was the first destination? Brasil or Argentina? I found only a Nicola CASSARI no gae, son of Francesco, arrived in Brasil in 1913... maybe can interest you:

Nome Sobrenome Parentesco Ano Nacionalidade
FRANCESCO CASSARI CHEFE 11/28/1913 ITALIANA
NICOLA - FILHO 11/28/1913 ITALIANA
VINCENZO - FILHO 11/28/1913 ITALIANA
if you have more details please let us know, regards, suanj

His first destination was Argentina. Then Brazil to get the thugs who attacked him in Argentina.

Then nothing was ever heard.

Just wondering if he was already married in Italy when he left...

If so, can you name his wife?

Please see Possible Manifest?

There are 2 other manifests of a Nicola Cassari born 1880... but you felt that they were not the one...

Found this record, though the surname is slightly different... there is only one other manifest with the same Casciari surname (Giuseppe's)... who arrived a few years later... see link below.

This manifest indicates that this Nicola (also born 1880) was married to a Rose... Barbuto.

First Name: Nicola
Last Name: Cosciari (?)
Ethnicity: Italian, South
Last Place of Residence: Stefanacone, Catanzaro
Date of Arrival: Dec 06, 1908
Age at Arrival: 28y Gender: M Marital Status:
M
Ship of Travel: Nord America
Port of Departure: Napoli
Manifest Line Number: 0029

Could he be the one?

but the esperanza ship's manifest is correct for Nicola age; if YOUR Nicola in 1913 was 33 old, the Nicola's esperanza was also born in 1880! for sure nobody nicola cossari came in Argentina until 1920 by ship's manifest on line... regards, suanj

Sorry this is not his manifest.

he lived in Stefonaconi, Calabria.
He lived the town, with his wife Rose Barbuto.

He then left for South America, except we don't know what ever happened then.

My Nonna's Uncle went to South America to look for him after he stopped writing to our family in Stefonaconi. My Nonna's Uncle went and found no trace of Nicola Cossari.

He dissapeared in thin air, never heard or seen again.
Maybe the Mafia got him in Brazil and hid him away. no trace.

So... let me get this straight...

The manifest I located of Nicola Cosciari...

who just happens to have the same name (almost) as your ancestor,

who just happens to have the same birth year,

birth town,

exact same wife's name... IS NOT your ancestor. 8O

Okey Dokey...

Family says one thing... documents say another...

Would you happen to know the name of his parents?? Or any of the children born to Rosa?

Could you ask your grandmother who Nicola Staropoli was? Or any of the Staropoli's...

Can you tell me the name of the person who went looking for him? If he was married, can you name his wife?

Also, this 1908 boat record also tells me that Nicola was also in the USA from 1905 to 1906. There should be another record...

I haven't even started to look for other American records... but I will search... but if he only stayed in the USA for a very short time... maybe the manifests are all we got...

I know you are not convinced with the manifest... but I too am not convinced with story.
