Carpathia 1912 (the ship that rescued Titanic passengers)

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

I'll have to check on that Dan, and Nuccia, it's funny our eyes skip over things sometimes and "trick" us! :)

Check this link out showing some amazing photos just hours after the sinking.
There is also some info on The Mackay-Bennet , which was the chief (but certainly not the sole)vessel in charge of pulling the bodies from the ocean. So terribly sad.

Thanks Jim,

I do appreciate the links. We can never know too much about history. I will probably be picking your brain from here on end as I learn more. It's so fascinating and so tragic!

James

My brother in law went to Halifax last week an he visited a Titanic graveyard. I thought of you and asked him to take a few pictures which he did. He also took pictures of Pier 21, the port where several of my relatives arrived to Canada. I thought you might like them.

If you're interested, let me know and I will post them or email them to you.

I read the discussion regarding the role the Carpathia played in the Titanic disaster with interest. My maternal grandmother, Giocomina Cardile, immigarted to the United States on the Carpathia. She began her journey from Santo Stefano di Briga, Messina, Sicily, sailed from Naples and arrived at Ellis Island on April 11, 1911.

I have always wanted to visit Halifax and the cemetery there. Someday soon I will. I'd love to see the pictures, perhaps posting them would be the best idea, so all can enjoy!

Thanks for thinking of me!

Ok. I'll start a new topic and post the pictures here this weekend.

My BIL said it was the most amazing thing to experience (and he's usually not into things like this) but after hearing me talk about all this stuff, and after asking him to check it out for us he said he's really glad he did it.

Sometimes having family around is a good thing!
