Dual Citizenship App w/the Philadelphia Italian Consulate

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Dual Citizenship App w/the Philadelphia Italian Consulate

Post by maddief »

Has anyone here applied for and obtained dual citizenship through the Italian Consulate in Philadelphia? I am currently gathering all the necessary documents and was wondering if it's simply a matter of presenting the necessary documents and walking out the same day with dual citizenship or if the Consulate does it's own research and takes its time. I'd be grateful to anyone who might have helpful anecdotes.

Consulate don't make research for you.
You need to have all the civil record from italy, all the civil record from USA, civil record of USA need translations and apostille from Secretary of State.
After that you call for an appointment, and on that day you give all the papers you have, and you wait at least one year to have your certificate of italian citizenship
I hope it helps, bye Riccardo

I realize that I have to provide all the documentation but I didn't realize that it took so long for them to process it! Can anyone else confirm that it takes about 1 year?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if everything is complete in one year, you are lucky. Many people have found the wait to be considerably longer.
