surnames Lamoya/Fornesse

Post by Sharpie »

Hello,

I found these two surnames from a Spanish book of Immigration to Puerto Rico. It reads:

Lamoya Fornesse Pasqual 1871
Hijo (Son) de (of) Antonio y de Maria. From Saponara, Italy. Dies at 14 years old. I believe Messina region.

How would I go about trying to search this area in Italy or records on the two surnames?

Any help I would appreciate.

Thanks Sandra Lamolli[/b]

Sandr you have been in and out of these italian forums for the past several yearfs now and you should kknow your way around. You leave out the source of theis "spanish book of immigration" and do not explain how it was compiled so that it can be verified for authenticity since Fornesse is not the correct spelling but is most likely Fornese. In any event you can check out ellis island for name check, year of birth and place of birth if any. The current directory for Saponara and the proivince of Messina of which it is a part has no current listing for Fornese or fornesse which does not measn they are not t=from that area at some time in the past. Go to ther family history library opf the mormon church and rent out the micrfoilm for Saponoara whose records go from 1800's to 1910 and look up to see if there ever were Fornese in Saponara. Lamoya is a spanish name as you well know!! but you casn look that up in the micofilm for Saponara as well. Peter

Hi: Lamoya not is italian surname, also Fornesse, but are spanish and french surnames.
Moreover with phonetic sound similar to Lamoya (spanish) is italian Lamoglia surname coming from Basilicata region..
Currently Lamoglia is present in 4 italian Common..
In years interested, sure Lamoglia surname coming from Saponara di Grumento(Potenza province-Basilicata region...currently this town, called Grumento Nova), but not Saponara (Messina province-Sicilia region).

Hello Peter,

Yes, you are right. I have been around long enough to know where I could search the LDS.

I didn't make myself clear sorry about that. What I meant is can one obtain documents straight from Italy by mail on searches or surnames? I know some countries allow it some don't.

If, not I do have the films # on Saponara which is from LDS and the information I found which is from a book. Author Cifre de Loubriel Estela.
which I will order if I can't do it directly by mail to Italy. Also, I gathered the name Fornesse is mispelled and perhaps it's Fornese. Thanks Peter.

You know very well what you can obtain and not obtain in Italy. You have been on enough italian forums and got many people to respond to you that you should be an expert by now. In fact are you a genealogy consultant? Peter

Thank you Suanj for that information. Interesting, I didn't know Fornesse was a French name. That I must look into. Lamoya I know is Spanish but a Census record I found says the person claims he is from Italy. Like you said perhaps it's like Lamoglia or some other spelling. As for you Peter there is no need to be nasty. I have never been nasty to you or anyone on any forum. And for your information Peter I didn't remember whether Italy allows obtaining documents. As for your comment ...am I a genealogy Consultant. If I were I wouldn't be asking question. I am no Specialist, Professional, Expert or whatever you want to call it. If you want to call me a Consultant because I do attend Family History Events in NYC then you go right ahead. Yes, I have been here and had people help me with names and other stuff like location and I also appreciate every bit of help everyone has given me. If, my questions bother you then don't answer to them if your going to be nasty no need for that.

There is no need for your nasty remarks what so ever. Shame on you Ö

Thank you Sandra

you protest too much which indicates to me that you know there is some truth to what I say but no matter since I help those who will help themselves. Peter
