genealogy

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Can you tell us approximately what year he might have been born or if he migrated to the US and if so what state did he end up in? Then we can try and help.

Hi Brazil58 and welcome to the forum. I haven't found Vincenzo's manifest yet, just these two for Tardocchi. Can you tell us how old your grandfather was when he came and what year he was born. Also his fathers name and mothers name (maiden) and any brothers and sisters with their names and years of birth?

Couple of things:

1) It's "Ascoli Piceno"

2) Ascoli Piceno is both a province and the name of the capital city within the province. If he was from the *province* of Ascoli Piceno, there are many, many, comuni from which he may have come. Check out this Wikipedia page.. The city/province also has its own web page, but it appears to be down as of this moment.

3) Are you absolutely certain about the spelling of the name "Tardochi"? I realize this is not totally scientific, but if you visit an Italian telephone directory and enter several different Italian surnames in the Cognome field, then click the "Cerca" button, you will get page after page of listings for that name throughout Italy. Most interestingly, the name Tardochi comes up empty. For the entire country!

4) The name "Tedeschi" on the other hand is popular thoughout the Ascoli Piceno province; visit this site and try Tardochi/Tedeschi in the box for the Marche region. Tedeschi, Tardochi - pretty similar, I think. Could the spelling have become corrupted over time?
