De Dominicis or De Dominico Giovanni - Carinola south Italy
Re: De Dominicis or De Dominico Giovanni - Carinola south It
underground: I believe possible that Giovanni abandoned wife and children... and changed the name... abt 1 year ago, I made another search, abt a italian, emigrated and never back in Italy.... the search had success, because he changed the name, but the birthdate and birthplace remained right in WWII draft reg. card... so, by a US friend help, I had also the naturalization paper and court sentence abt name changing.... well also in this case, some italian paisanos, remembering that seen him in Phila... and this was the only info that the italian family had in all this years, until the search.....
in Giovanni case, if it was died, however was necessary a letter by consulate to italian family... this was normal... instead nothing... I believe that he changed the name, maybe only so, without court sentence, but sure he was knew under another name.... and if he never made the changing name, by court, maybe it can be some death records under right name.... but where?

Is there a database of naturalization records where where we can look using as keyword the home town (Carinola) and not the name?
Look here
http://www.footnote.com/searchdocuments ... h#27976895
This is strange, he cames from Carinola but in that town there is no one with that name. This remember me Leschermier.

Antonio,
going on with this search I'm persuaded that probably there was no a so terrible secret in Giovanni's life (like a strange death).... Probably he met another woman and had a new family in America....
At that time it would have been a big shame here in Italy.... so the family decided to follow Giuseppe's advice and decided don't talk about Giovanni and his new life....
I'm pretty sure that probably his wife here in Italy was informed about his husband's bad behaviour but sure she didn't informed her two daughters....
This is my feeling....
Good idea to investigate about Giuseppe's family.... I'm sure that someone knows something!
So many time has passed, I'm hoping that someone wants to talk about this "old family problem"...

Ciao Antonio,
I'm sorry but I have no news for you and your De Dominicis search...
I think I searched ALL the WWI draft card 8O 8O 8O by last name, year of birth, month of birth etc.... 8O 8O but found nothing interesting.
So, after reading all your post another time I was thinking that maybe could be helpful for you request the Naturalization Papers about Joseph Demicis, that's because I read he did the declaration on may 1909 and who knows? maybe it's possible at that time we was in contact with his brother.... and you'll know his address in that year... another piece of this puzzle!
I don't know what is the procedure and the cost to ask the Naturalization Paper, I'm sure Suanj can help you in this ....
Did you discover something news form your living relatives?
Laura

THanks a lot Laura. I was sure you did not abandoned me!
I have already request the naturalization papers at the Chester County Archivies, requesting all the papers and letters attached, hoping something jump out...
I have sent the money (14 USD) on 15 jan. and hope to receive papers soon.
I have also sent an email to Avondale Borough Local Government but the email returns back....
http://www.township-directory.com/Chest ... ondale.htm
Nothing interesting from Giuseppe relatives at the moment.
I will try again
Thank Laura, i'm sure your nose will not fail!

Here we are!
Allora,
naturalization documents arrived! Thanks to Chester County Archives!
They are interesting and give us confirm about Giuseppe identity, but no news on Giovanni....
This is the first Declaration of intention, dated 1909, REJECTED:

Second Declaration, dated 1911, accepted
pg.1:

pg.2:

Now the final document:
pg.1

pg2:

By this documents we have some confirms:
1) Giuseppe arrived for first time on 1903, returned in Italy on 1906, finally back in US on 1907.
2) His identity is definitely confirmed by his wife name (Teresa) and childrens (Pasquale born 1903 and Alessandro born 1901).
3) Changed name from De Dominicis to Demicis
This is all, Giovanni remane a phantom!

Sirena wrote:When searching at familysearch, I noticed that there were several Border Crossings to Canada for Giovanni Di Domenico and reentries through Niagara, Buffalo and Detroit. Unfortunately, I can't see the details...maybe someone could check it. Maybe he worked for a trucking co., etc. and the route was through Canada.........maybe he stayed in Canada and that's why nothing can be found? It may not be the same person but it could be an explanation of why he disappears from US records.
Laura...........I think you should check the Canadian border crossings to find Giovannimisbris wrote:Antonio,
Sirena is correct. I found a number of Canadian border crossings for Giovanni, birth date ranges from 1875 to 1879 so it could be the same person and the birthdate is in the ballpark. One was December 1907 and another Aug. 1913. No census records in NY or Michigan.
There were no WW I draft registration cards for either Giovanni or Giuseppi.
Found another Giovanni in a PA census. Age was right, but he was living with 2 other Didomenicos, Domenico and Alexandro all boarders in someone's home.
Checked all spellings of cognome including Dominic and Dominick, in case he Americanized it into something like John Dominick.
I think we must look in Canada. Perhaps Nuccia can help with Canadian records.

Antonio,
You are turning into a real detective!!! Bravo. Every little bit helps shed light on the situation.
We did check the border crossings, no luck. The only other thing is that RI death record. Any way of checking that?
Maybe I am just a romantic, but I don't think Giovanni just abandoned his family and started a new life. There would have to be some record, somewhere!!!!
Is there anyway of getting the Italian Consulate to make inquiries? After all, he was an Italian citizen who simply disappeared? (Just a thought)

Re: De Dominicis or De Dominico Giovanni - Carinola south It
Thanks
i really hoped to find something about border crossing....
I think he has changed name into one that has no sounds with his really one...possible??...and why?...mah!
I phoned to American consulate in Italy, but they need a residence State and an exact spelling name...and if we had these two exact informations we would have already found him with no helps!
From Giuseppe's documents we know that the two brothers have fastly separated.
About an eventually death, Giuseppe could not hide it to the relatives in Italy, the consulate would have informed them about the death.
Consequently i think he is died not young, as an american citizen, with a new name, an other wife and other sons, and no one to call in Italy.
Any suggestion?
