Langelo: the provinces are the counties; the capital of Reggio Calabria province and of Catanzaro province are Reggio Calabria town and Catanzaro town: if your ancestor is no born in Reggio Calabria or Catanzaro towns, the officer cannot help you... they ignoring your request... please to have a bit of patience( almost 1 month) and from Cosenza archive you can know the right trace of your ancestor... only in the case that he no born in Cosenza province , well you must send same request in Reggio Calabria archive and Catanzaro archive... I'm most sure that you will receive the positive reply from Cosenza... regards, suanj

Thanks so much Suanj. I will wait to hear from Cosenza and then contact other provinces. Good plan.

I have just heard from a friend that the Italian dual citizenship requirements are changing or may have changed. Does anyone know about this.

I am anxiously awaiting replies from provinces re: birhplace of grandfather. This lack of knowledge has halted my progression toward Italian citizenship.

Thanks so much,
Lois

Just a tip for everyone:

I have never enclosed money with my letters requesting any kind of certificates. I have written to Fondi and Calabria, and have always received the certificates within a matter of weeks without adding cash. In fact, I'm not sure whether or not they are even allowed to ask for cash. Italian friends of mine never have to pay to obtain documents, so that's why I haven't either. It is, however, smart to call up the registry of the particular comune to which you have written in order to speed things along (if you speak Italian, that is. Otherwise, let an older relative call who speaks Italian).
