I need some help with an Italian word
I need some help with an Italian word
Could someone told me the meaning of the italian word "dodiamo"?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Re: I need some help with an Italian word
There is no such word as 'dodiamo' - The word diamo is from the verb DARE = to give.
So diamo means 'we give'.
If 'do-diamo' was spoken then it could be dialect for tòh diamo
Go on we'll give.....
(tòh = expresses surprise, stupor, wonder)

Maybe the word you heard was dobbiamo which means "We must" or "we have to".

My partner's mother is 90 and speaks a Neapolitan dialect as well as English. These days the two get very mixed up. She constantly used the phrase (and I'm spelling it phoenetically) 'con gopa' for 'over there' or 'over here'.

Dodiamo is dialect for "where are we going?" and the phrase Con gopa is "upstairs" =Peter=

Well you learn something every day. I shall have to ask her why she says upstairs when she means over there. Mind you she does have Alzheimer's.

Dear Anjgi I suppose she used the phrase 'ngoppa because she had to get out of the chair and reach for something "up there" as a euphamism for upstairs.=Peter=

the words" 'n copp a or 'n gopp " is a dialectal phrase originated from " in groppa" that was used for to go on a horse, in the time, after the phrase was used for " andare su/messo su" " andare in alto/messo in alto" ... the contrary was and is " a ball" ( giù, posto/messo inferiormente) ... kisses, suanj

Re: I need some help with an Italian word
She is hung up on a phrase, that sounds like 'mia mamma, te me t'puera con gopa, subito'. what she means is that her mum will be worried about her. But she's 90 and has Alzheimer's and probably has it all mixed up. Anyway, this phrase is repeated over and over again so we all know it, and know what she means even if she isn't saying what she means.
