Hi Mler - I will definitely see how things go with the "1912" issue in the months ahead. I still may have a chance on the paternal side.
In the meantime, I thought it would be smart to see if I qualify on my maternal side, (could be quicker) but since I can not find any naturalization paperwork on John Acierno, I have hit a wall. Since people typically reply with research finds fairly quickly on these posts, maybe no one else can find naturalization info on John Acierno either. I have tried so many different searches on the internet - very frustrating.
My maternal side could not have naturalized prior to 1912, since they only immigrated in 1908. (I just have no proof of ANY naturalization.) How do these papers just go MIA? If no one on these posts can find it, is the next step for me to inquire with the INS?
If you hear any updates on the 1912 issue - please let me know. Thanks!

Re: Dual Citizenship Questions and Assistance!
It's very possible that your maternal ancestor never naturalized, and many people qualify that way. If you live in the New York region, contact NARA, to see if there are any records for him. If not, make a request to USCIS. The "letter of no record" from them and one from NARA should be enough in NY to prove he never naturalized; and, of course, no naturalization works for citizenship purposes.
I did not go this route so I can't give you too much help, but I'm sure someone else here can. Perhaps you should begin a new thread.
You may also want to begin a new search thread in the genealogy section of this forum.

Re: Dual Citizenship Questions and Assistance!
Thanks Mler - I appreciate your input. Did you mean that I should start a new thread to see if someone on this board can find the naturalization paperwork on line?
Also - are we allowed to have a thread for the same request in two sections at the same time?
Thanks! Have a great weekend!

That's what I meant, and sure you can.
Re: Dual Citizenship Questions and Assistance!
Thanks for the clarification - will get right on it!
Re: Dual Citizenship Questions and Assistance!
Possible good news. Someone just reported applying in NY with a relative born in the U.S. in 1910. He had absolutely no problem. Here's hoping the first decision was an error.
Re: Dual Citizenship Questions and Assistance!
That is great news!!! Let's all still keep our fingers crossed that this practice continues and that their application is actually approved! (Where there is life - there is hope...)
Thanks for the update!
