Should I assume that the priest did make a mistake in referencing the bride in Filippo's marriage document from 1649? I think he wrote "Vincentia." Also...while looking at the Baptism index...I noticed several other Filippo Salerno's had children with about THREE other women...all within this same time period. I am hoping that this is perhaps a cousin to Filippo (or another relation) and not the same one having children with all these women! Although I know enough I guess not to rule anything out at this point!
I never rule anything out until I've studied all possible records. So if there was a father named Filippo Salerno, who had a son named Rocco born in 1610 with one wife, and another Filippo who had a son named Rocco with a different wife in the same year, then I would assume that the men are two different people with the same first and last names, and that possibly they were cousins naming their sons after a common grandfather. If, however, the children are born a few years apart, and there is a Filippo as father for all of those children, but the mothers' names are different, then it could be the same Filippo with different wives, but you would have to confirm this by finding their marriage records to those different women.
Don't you just love this? Resolving one issue always seems to lead to another. Happy hunting!
