Hello All,
First of all thank to all of you who have helped me with my research. I am happy to say that I have located the family of Domenico Mascia here in the US and we are actually communicating. This is very exciting for me also in the anticipation of the planned events in August, October and December in Monongah, WV.
I am so happy to have found a new part of my family. And this also thanks to your help.

Re: Domenico Mascia in West Virginia, USA
My name is Claudio Iannone and I'm replying from Italy.
I know who was Domenico Mascia. He came to America from a little village, called Vastogirardi, in Molise province. He was married in Italy, had a son that went to America. His wife had then an other son with a man of the village and her descendants are still living in the same village.
I can keep you in touch with them, if you want...

I am trying to find more information on a Domenico Mascia who lived and worked in West Virginia. He died in the Monongah mine disaster on December 6, 1907 in West Virginia. Monongah is close to Fairmont in Marion County, WV. This year marks the 100th anniversary and several celebrations will be held in honor of the decesed miners.
All I know is that he must have been in his late 20's or early 30's when he died (I'm trying to find out when he was born) and that he was married to a Marion (Mary) Emma Edith Grimm and that they had two children. I found several records of Domenico Mascia's coming through Ellis Island but not knowing exactly when he was born makes it difficult to determine which one is the right one.
My goal is to find out if I (we, my family; Mascia) am/are related to Domenico Mascia and what happened to his children and other family members in West Virginia.
If anyone can provide any information that could help me one step further, it would be greatly appreciated. Please respond all of you who know anything about the Mascia family. THANK YOU - GRAZIE!

Elizabeth,
Domenico Mascia was born in Vastogirardi in 1867. The manifest of Ellis Island in 1887 published in this forum, is correct ! The other persons listed before him are all from the same village.
His son was Emidio Mascia. I don't know when he went to America since he was born. But Domenico didn't keep in touch with her wife. We know he remarried in America and had two kids. Many coal miners from Vastogirardi went originally in Steubenville (OH) and Pittsbourgh (PA) and many families still live in these towns.
This week end, I will write more about this. The italian "console" in West Virginia came in Italy, in Vastogirardi, for the Monongah disaster anniversary, saying about Mr. Domenico Mascia, daed in 1907, on dec.06, the day of St. Nicholas....."the protector of Vastogirardi".
Bye for now.
