Thanks Marty!

Does that mean that I can't just go in there and look through the books for people like I do on Family Search? Or am I able to do this?

Ability to Look at Records after 1910 in Italy in Person

Hey all.

I will be traveling to Italy in less than 2 weeks. There does not seem to be many records online after 1910, but I notice that one of my communes has some records up to 1950. Does this mean that I might be able to look at records up until that point at other communes in person....and that ...

Contacting Wealthy Relative on LinkedIn

Hey all.

So I'm in a bit of a bind here and I'm wondering if I could have some recommendations. I hired a researcher who has been able to locate many of my living relatives in Italy.

Unfortunately, one of great grandmother's more interesting brothers has only one living descendant. It turns out ...

Re: Unusual question re: Italian connection and how to best make contact

All nice in extensive preparation but not at all necessary. I walked into the office of the commune in Abruzzo, presented my American ID and obtained a copy of my grand-father's birth certificate. Next the sindaco picked up the phone and called my father's first cousin and I was at his home having ...

Re: death records search in campania & sicily

tried everything as i said. the lds films and countless letters of inquiry. my only hope would be to actually connect with another researcher seeking the same records for the same people. highly unlikely. a needle in a haystack.

Have you tried either hiring a researcher or physically going to ...

Re: death records search in campania & sicily

Re: Unusual question re: Italian connection and how to best make contact

This is patently late for Mark's visit, and I'm not always clear on how active old threads remain. Nonetheless, perhaps useful for someone in some way. This year my family visited Sicily for the first time. I wanted my first impression to not be too shabby, and since I couldn't be clear about how ...

Re: Need help with the mystery of my GGF's birth commune

This may help to clear up the mystery of who "Francesco Nunzio" is. :D

Here is the marriage in 1884 of Francesco Nunziato Barberi and Maria Romeo

Dated 17 July 1884
Francesco Nunziato Barberi, 40, laborer born in Catona, residing Catone; son of deceased Domenico , and of deceased Maria ...

Re: Need help with the mystery of my GGF's birth commune

This is most likely a mistake. The online record lists his name as "Nunzio Barberi". Not sure where the commune is getting "Francesco Nunzio" from.

From what I can tell, this was the couple's first son. Nunzio Sr.'s father was named Domenico. In keeping with Italian naming traditions, this is ...

Re: USCIS Genealogy Index Request - Wait Time..

The USCIS is a mess.

I ordered naturalization records for multiple ancestors (one for dual citizenship, others just to get pictures of ancestors).

The first one that I ordered has still not arrived, but the other 3 have, including one that I ordered earlier this month. All went through a FOIA.

Re: Best Practices for Contacting Distant Relatives in Italy for In-Person Meetings

I found my Italian cousins and just recently met them in their hometown of Vicari, Italy last May!
We brought a translator who picked us up from the airport and drove us to their house.
It was an amazing experience they greeted us with open arms and of course a kiss on each cheek.. lol

Thanks for the info. Can you post a link? I don't see any collections of Riveli on familysearch.org.

Sicilian Riveli Records are Online!

I went to order one on Saturday to hit the August 31 deadline for microfilms. To my amazement, the records for ALL of my ancestral are online (though only accessible from Family History Centers).

Needless to say, I'm counting down the minutes until I'm able to go next (on Tuesday after work ...
