American Naturalization

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

and as for Casimiro...could it be Cosmo or Cosimo wife Raffaella?

I'm going to check further into this, too.

So, the problem is this... My Great grandpa name was Casimiro, no Cosmo, but is registred with Cosimo i dont know why. I write to my american cousin and she reply to me that the name was Casimiro.
Quando lui e venuto in America nel 1909 il suo nome era Casimiro Milza. La Nonna era' Raffaela Vollero Quando Nonno nostro si ha trasferito alle Stati Uniti, il suo passaporto diceva Casimiro Milza.
This is in Italian :( And i dont know when i need to start to do a translation, sorry :(

Ok....to sum up a long conversation...........

Here is the basic info:

1904 - 1984.

Records found by name:

and last but not least:

Maria Raffaella Vollero
born March 14, 1889
husband Louis died on October 27, 1938
They were married on August 19, 1909 in Atrani, Salerno, Italy.
She was naturalized on Febuary 26, 1962.

However, it was very hard for her to read these books as they are very old and she was unable to make out some of the writing.

Its ok Raven, its simple enough Italian for most of us to understand..

translation (rough)

When he came to America in 1909 his name was Casimiro Milza. Grandmother was Raffaella Vollero. When our Grandfather came to the US his passport said Casimiro Milza.

Darn, I see a problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Francesco, your great grandmother appears to have naturalized in 1962. At that time, your grandfather was an adult so he could not have naturalized with her. He would have had to naturalized on his own or with his father. So I don't think we're done yet.

DeLisa, is there any way to check on the great grandfather?

Looked again at the census you posted, but although Mary is listed as an alien, I can't interpret the writing for Louis. Looks like "Pa" to me (closer to "Na" than "Al".) Any thoughts?

Then the next question is if Louis naturalized, when did he do so, and is Francesco's grandfather's name on the Petition of Naturalization?

It looks like PA which means he applied for naturalization but wasn't naturalized yet when the census was taken. My greatgrandfather also applied for naturalization and lived in the US from about 1909 until he passed in 1954 and I believe he still wasn't naturalized I believe due to an error in his birth records from Italy.. We need to confirm if he actually did or not..we should look for a 1930 census..

Mler brings up some very good points...

Can't remember, did you say Franco was in Italy or the USA...If he was born in 1923 then he wouldn't have been around for the 1920 census but may have been for the 1930 census..

Raven, you can try looking through this website in the meanwhile if you don't have ancestry.com..

http://www.familyoldphotos.com/6c/1930census.html

For 3 days I think its free and you can search variations along side us...the more eyes the better.

Lisa, you're amazing. Its so nice of you to go throu all this for raven. I'm sure its appreciated.
