Jennabet,
Am I to understand that this is only for those applying for citizenship *in* Italy, and that those applying at Consulates outside Italy don't need to meet the residency requirement? Or does this mean all citizenship applicants will need to meet the residency requirement before their ...

Congrats!
Every time I read one of these posts, it lifts my spirits a little - this process can seem thoroughly draining and hopeless, at times.

Re: Moving from TX to VA - help finding loophole!
Jennabet,
Thanks for your reply.
The way it looks, right now, I'll probably be in Virginia within a week or two. So, since my appointment is the 1st of November, legally, I would be obliged to update all my records by that point, I suppose. But, in fact, I won't deny - I'm more, well, slow moving ...

Re: Just received naturalization records from USCIS
I read somewhere that the regular copies would be acceptable as long as they are submitted with the original envelope and cover letter received from the USCIS. That's what I'll be submitting.
Thank you! This helps (good thing I saved both the cover letter and the envelope).

Moving from TX to VA - help finding loophole!
Okay, so after a brief stint of living in Texas, I am moving *back* to Virginia; but here's my problem, I was *really* counting on applying in TX at the Houston Consulate (as I hear it's much easier than the ones on the East Coast).
My appointment is in November, but, due to personal issues, it ...

Re: Anyone know a translator?
I'm using Gianluca Croce'; she's recommended by the NY Consulate, is fair priced, and said she could translate my 7 documents within a week.

@KTPoloni,
I'm not sure, yet - my appointment is coming up in November, so here's hoping!
If you want, I can let you know what they say.
P.S.
I'll be applying at Houston, by the way.

Re: Italians and slavery in the US
Interesting topic; I've done a bit of research on prejudice against Italians, and have compiled some newspaper articles on the subject:

This article in particular demonstrates the views of Italians, at this time:

Do I need to have naturalization record apostille/translated
I'm sending off records to be apostilled, today, and I'm just wondering if I should include my great grandfather's naturalization record; also, does this need translated? If so, do I need to translate the cover letter from USCIS and the Declaration of Intent, etc. or just the actual nat. record ...

Re: Using a baptism record in place of a birth record
When was he born and where in PA? I had a delayed birth cert created for my GF in PA and it took days.
He was born in Feb. 1909; I would love to hear how you had that done, though! Like I said, this is something I've been stressing out about - if I can get this done, then I'll have collected all ...

Using a baptism record in place of a birth record
Well, it's a good thing I moved my appointment from July to November (I would have been - to put it bluntly - screwed if I didn't  )!
Okay, so my application is nearing completion; I have all the documents I need (save one), will be sending them in for apostilles, and have most of the ...

Re: Immigration experience before sailing
The movie Nuovomondo is being broadcasted on TV at the end of the month...how lucky for me. I have set my recorder and am anxious to watch it. I have also found the book Imported Americans and ordered it.
Thank you to all who responded.

Re: Marisa Tomei will be on "Who Do You Think You Are" Feb.
Agreed - I didn't like Sheen's episode, either!
My beef with this show is how *clearly* scripted it is - I mean, what are the odds everyone that goes on there uses the same, silly, feel good phrases (like, "I feel like I've come full circle").
Also, I love how in Tomei's episode, it showed her ...

Re: Immigration experience before sailing
I would also like to recommend a movie called Nuovomondo (Golden Door). It's all about a Sicilian immigrant and his family's experience in coming to America. It paints a great picture of what it would be like prior to and during the voyage, and also what experiences are ancestors would have had at ...

Just wanted to know if any of you watched this episode (which aired tonight at 8/7c). I did - I was a bit undwhelmed, especially since she only traced one ancestor, but it was nice to see her in Italy speaking a little Italian.
