Re: Looking for the Casali di San Ciro, Vico Equense NA

Thank you so much Ciro. :-)
I have been trying to work out if San Ciro was a separate village in the hills or just part of the town for ages.

The family name is Della Ragione or La Ragione.

I know there are a few La Ragione's left in Vico Equense but the couple I have been able to contact did ...

Re: Short translation request

Thanks Marty :-)

I am afraid that is the whole message.

The area is now just a section of the town rather than a separate Casale - I wonder why (if it was so small an area in the 1860s) it was chosen for the Bishops office?

Short translation request

I recently asked on the Vico Equense Facebook page if anyone knew where the Casale San Ciro was. I have tried to google translate the reply but it didn't really make sense. Can anybody translate this for me please:-

"sicuramente era chiamata cosi la parte centrale di vico che in quel periodo aveva ...

Re: Agricoltore and Contadino

Thanks Marty this is a useful site.

Thanks Ann - I think there must be a distinction as the different terms were used on the same document - so the official must have thought there was a difference.

There seemed to be a lot of 'contadino' in the area but very few 'agricoltore' so I think your ...

Re: Bracciale and Contadine

Can you find land ownership records in other areas of italy?

If so do you write to the Ufficio technico - or do the records vary in different parts of italy?

I am looking in the Lucca/Capannori area.

Thanks

Agricoltore and Contadino

On my great great grandfathers birth act his father is recorded as an Agricoltore and his maternal grandfather as a Contadino.

Is there a difference between the two - all the translations just seem to say farmer. It seemed strange that the official would use two different terms for people doing ...

LDS Library/comune organisation

When looking in the LDS Library I found the Comune of Capannori - listed with it are only 6 of its 40ish Frazioni.

Is this because the LDS have only recorded a small section of the comune?

This led me to wonder how the registration system is organised.

The place I am interested is not listed but ...

Re: looking for Angelina Callori (coffrini)

The difficulty is that only a few of the italian records are online. :-(

You can check on the LDS site (FamilySearch.org) but when I had a quick look they seemed to have records for the places you want but not in the years you want!

Don't worry - I think it is pretty confusing as well - it really ...

Re: looking for Angelina Callori (coffrini)

From looking at your previous posts I think you have all the information that you can get online at the moment.

Your next step would be to write to the Stato Civile for the Comune and ask for the birth/marriage certificate you require.

You have already been given the link to help you write the ...

Re: Italian Movies with English Subtitles

Not an action movie but one of my favourites is Il Postino.

I recently watched Pranzo Di Ferragosto and thought it was quite a sweet and funny film - It might be a bit gentle for an action movie fan!

Re: Eggs cooked in tomato sauce.

I found the name 'uova in purgatorio' on the internet as well MaryMena.

Does anyone know why the eggs would be in purgatory?
Or where this name comes from?

Re: Eggs cooked in tomato sauce.

Thanks Livio. I guess that I was expecting something a bit more romantic! :-D
Is it something that is eaten in all areas of italy?

Carmine - this is definitely a different recipe but I think it sounds quite tasty - I am going to give it a try-Thanks.

Perhaps we could have an italian recipe ...

Eggs cooked in tomato sauce.

My granddad used to make a tomato sauce and then crack an egg into it and let the sauce poach the egg.

Does anybody know the name for this dish?

Is it linked to a particular area of italy?

Re: Person appears to have NEVER DIED

I think Carmine is right - an error in the index really is the most likely reason for this problem.

I have not used the italian index but for the English/Welsh index I have found a number of people who have apparently never died or have died without ever being born!

People can be missed off ...
