Re: Marriage During Lent?

Thank you both ... nazca, would not receiving the solemn blessing be something customary or somewhat unusual for that time period?

Migration to Argentina

I am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction here ... My grandmother use to say that her grandfather, Luigi Lupi, left Italy and went to Argentina where he was murdered on a coffee plantation. The only information I have about Luigi is that he was born in 1848 and his parents where ...

Marriage During Lent?

I recently obtained a copy of my great great grandparents marriage certificate (see attached) from Castelbuono, Italy (near Palermo). I was also lucky enough to find a photograph of the couple on their wedding day. I was told that they married on or about March 21, 1868 by the professional ...

Re: Need Help Translating Certificate

It is very sad indeed, though to date, I have not found any proof of his departure from Italy. But, as is so often the case, there is usually some truth behind most family legends so I will continue to search for more clues.

Is it possible that Luigi was one of the town's clerks that would ...

Re: Need Help Translating Certificate

Thank you so much! Do you know what that means? Does it mean that he just worked at the town hall? What would his duties have been? The family story was that he was some sort of a politician in San Amantea di Pietro and that he went to work on a coffee plantation in Argentina and was murdered there.

Re: Help With Passenger Manifest Markings

Thank you! Yes, I knew that Alessandro had been to the US before. I have the passenger record from 1907 when he and my great grandmother arrived for the first time. Alessandro apparently went back to Italy to bring Mama to the US! I thought the same thing about Beatrice and her mental state. From my ...

Help With Passenger Manifest Markings

Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me identify some of the markings on the below passenger list (pages 1 & 2). First, it looks like there is an "X" next to line 22 for Alessandro Luppi (my great grandfather), yet there is no mention of him (or the others he travelled with) in the list of detained ...

Re: Passenger Record Translation

That's what I thought too. The address of the Giuseppe that Maria is going to looks the same as my relative's. So let me see if I get this, it's confusing.... Maria is probably the sister of Pietro's sister's husband, right? Thank you so much for your help!!

Passenger Record Translation

Can anyone help with the name listed here? It is a portion of the passenger record of my g-grandfather. It says he was traveling to see his brother in law, Giuseppe and then I can't make out the last name. Stupid question but, if he was single at the time, wouldn't his brother in law have to be his ...

Re: Board of Special Inquiry Hearings

Thanks for such a quick reply! That is what I understand also, that unless an appeal was filed, it is unlikely that I will be able to obtain copies of the transcripts. Good luck with your request!
