Re: Italian citizenship lawyers?

I am planning on reaching out to this lawyer in NY. He has good reviews and is located in the state in which all of my family was established in. I am going to continue as far as I can on document gathering and then contact him when my road runs out.

Re: Acquiring certified copies for great grandparents

Everything will most likely be by county. So if you know the towns they were established in during birth and death, inside those states, you will find out what county the town is in. You then reach out to the vital records office and find out what their requirements are. From there you may need to ...

Re: Acquiring certified copies for great grandparents

I am finding that some states will release them if it’s beyond 100 years of the birth. Others they won’t release them at all unless it’s the person who is named or legal parent or guardian. In these events you have to contact the court clerk. I’m still working my way through this process, however ...

Re: Paternal Dual Citizenship Questions

mler, thank you for the response!
My father was born in ‘49 under the Bellocchi last name. I’m having a very difficult time nailing down the approx date and location of the last name change my grandfather made. Looking at census data, it looks like he (my grandfather) started his first name change ...

Paternal Dual Citizenship Questions

My great grandfather was Born in Italy, he came to the USA in 1908. He married in 1917. They then had my grandfather in 1922. The USCIS report states my great grandfather Naturalized in 1938.
Herein lies my question. Reading the SFConsulate list it states;
Category 3: father born in the United ...

Re: 1889 birth “Atti Di Nascita” need help translating possible illegitimate offspring

Perhaps the "act of recognition" legitimizing the child will hold more clues.
Check the birth acts for 1903, 2 January, Act #1 (usually in Parte 2 or supplement)

T.

Thanks Tessa, can you point me in the direction of the “birth acts”. Google isn’t taking me anywhere that seems relevant. I assume ...

Re: 1889 birth “Atti Di Nascita” need help translating possible illegitimate offspring

Thank you! Edit: I re-read that and realize the “legitimized” person is Francesco, which should mean Maria is his mother. I’m also assuming that, from what I read, they may have been married in the church but not recognized by the state?
I later have info from ships passage and 2x marriage records ...

Born out of wedlock “non maritata”

I have a post pending in the translation sub forum, but it makes me wonder,
what ramifications were there for having a child out of wedlock during the mid 1800s?
“Con una Donna non maritata non parente”

In my particular case, what I can make out on the birth records do not match who my great ...

1889 birth “Atti Di Nascita” need help translating possible illegitimate offspring

I need assistance translating an Italian birth record from 1889 that looks to be my great grandfather. Francisco Bellocchi, in the upper left corner.
I’ve plugged much of the printed sections into google translate. I am having issues deciphering the cursive in the main body. What also throws me is ...

1887 Atti Di Nascita illegitimate baby?

I am needing help understanding why Contrasse Matrimomo is crossed out and replaced with “venne legiti... (illegiable)”. I’ve gone through the legible cursive sections using google translator and nothing stands out (that I have been able to translate) to be the reason for this. Possibly they were ...
