Re: mostly looking for names
The allegati were the supporting documents that a couple presented for their marriage-extracted copies of their birth acts, extracted copies of death acts for deceased parents, extracted copies of death acts of former spouses, etc. The extracted birth act is dated Jan 13, 1923 and should be for ...

Re: mostly looking for names
Thanks!
interesting because its listed as an "Allegati di Matrimonio" unless they're legitimizing her birth in her marriage record? Cristinia is my great grandmother.

mostly looking for names
Hi-
I have the marriage documents for my great grandparents. I'm mostly looking for my great-grandmother's parent's names (and any others). But if there's any other juicy info I'd love to know that too. I mean I don't necessarily need to know the weather the day they married. But if there's the ...

Re: Foundling Baptismal Document
Funny you should mention that. I found that author and have one of his books on order. My library can order books from all over the country, so I believe it’s coming from Boston. He’s written a few books, that may be the one I’m waiting for.

Yes, I believe you and Tessa translated it. He's number #321 on the bottom right and it continues to the next page

Re: Foundling Baptismal Document
Unless my Great Grandfather had a whole other life! But I doubt it. I can account for his whereabouts during that time :) I do find it interesting the Latin spelling of his name. He tended to use the Joseph vs Giuseppe, and if I go for citizenship, I was concerned about that being an issue, since ...

Re: Foundling Baptismal Document
I think that was for a different person, record #180, unless I’m reading the name/margins wrong. The person I think is my great grandfather is #181. I pretty sure he wasn’t married in Sicily in 1925 because he was already in the US by that time.

Foundling Baptismal Document
I think I may have found my great grandfather's baptismal record after a ton of searching. I think its his although I'm trying to read the cursive. It looks almost like his name is written as "joseph" vs Giuseppe and the "foundling home matron's" as "Joanna" vs "Giovanna". The dates line up, and ...

Discovered Foundling Roots w/DNA?
Has anyone here successfully back-traced their “foundling” ancestor’s history/story with the breadcrumbs that today’s modern science/tech offers? I’ve done both 23 and Me & Ancestry DNA (for completely different reasons) but wonder if I can’t possibly unlock my great-grandfathers unknown past ...

Re: Found Sicilian Birth Record
its all so intriguing. I'm trying to unravel his story as much as I can. this started with a long shot attempt at gathering documents for citizenship (turns out I was able to find them). And its turned into me trying to piece together the history he may have never known. I figure I can use the ...

Re: Found Sicilian Birth Record
I wonder how they decided *on* those names? It wasn’t the name of the family who raised him. And it clearly isn’t a “foundling” name. I do find Fiorentino a fair amount here in the US, as opposed to my other Italian family names. Perhaps it’s like us using “Smith, Brown etc” they just cycled through ...

Re: Found Sicilian Birth Record
very interesting. the family story was that he had his name pinned to his clothes, while Fiorentino is a common last name, its not from what I can gather a "foundling" last name, which means it came from someone/somewhere. this record is so detailed. Thank you so very much.

Re: Found Sicilian Birth Record
Do you have any good resources for translation? I can read cursive, even messy cursive, but I can't decipher 117 year old messy cursive in another language.

Re: Found Sicilian Birth Record
Yep. That’s probably his. The actual birth certificate I received from Catania doesn’t list parents. Thanks so much for finding this!! I’m going to try and translate it all
I'm impressed with how quickly you found that. I have been looking for a while, and just keep scanning through records....

Found Sicilian Birth Record
I was able to get an official copy of my great-grandfather’s Sicilian birth certificate. It was issued in Catania. I’m hoping to find the original record on family search. It states “atto N 321 Parte 2 Serie A” (act 321 part 2 series A) and I know he was supposedly born in Riposto, a town in Catania ...
