Re: Occupational Musical Chairs
The base industry would be farming. In our area, "contadini" were peasant farmers or sharecroppers that worked for a "possidente" (landowner). "Villico" is used primarily in Sicily and my guess would be more of a hired hand that had no stake in the crop itself. "Massaro" indicates a farm manager of ...

Re: Sicilian DNA
LivingDNA does not separate. My breakdown simply shows "Southern Italian" (including Sicily) with no separation. It's mainly a UK-based algorithm and is WAY OFF in my case. 23&Me is the only one (through a map) that separates out "closeness" in regards to Sicilian but gives no percentage. All the ...

I know you've showed me these photos before. The ear structure is very similar, but not identical. The younger man's eyes appear blue or green, not brown. I'd say the younger man's hair was chestnut. Hard to tell if it has any gray...

Re: Cousin Siblings
Not necessarily "more" DNA, but certainly from a smaller gene pool. Not certain on the 5th cousin thing, perhaps on paper, at least. I think the sibling relationship might cancel that out.
This is probably a good question for a genetic scientist...

Re: What's In a Name?
You could be on the right track. In our commune, the patron Saint was Aloysius of Gonzaga -- so the most common male name is Luigi (by far). The parish is Santa Maria Maggiore, so Maria tops the female list. I've seen the example you mention a few times. My guess is they were thinking of the Saint ...

Re: Is there an app that tells if records are destroyed/etc?
None that I know of. On Antenati, there is a search page that will tell you whether a town/regions records are "complete" or "partial". If complete, expect no further revelations; if partial, more records SHOULD be forthcoming.
Example: The records for Rome are "partial"; I just noticed a few days ...
