Re: Minasi family in Calabria - dead end

I’ve got Antonio Minasi from Scilla circa 1850 in my family tree. I wonder if I’m a distant cousin of your partner

Oh that's really cool if so! Where is your family tree located? Mine is on Ancestry and MyHeritage (although that one might need an update). My partner has done a DNA test which is ...

Re: Minasi family in Calabria - dead end

Yes I also used Italian surnames map and came up short. I didn't even consider looking at FamilySearch (I use the site too but haven't ever found much when searching for names in my tree). That's brilliant, thank you again. I'm pretty sure my mother-in-law mentioned Scilla at some point in our ...

Minasi family in Calabria - dead end

I'm struggling finding records for a married couple in my partner's family tree. I suspect they were born and married in a different town than where all their children were born...

The people in question are:
Antonio Minasi (born abt. 1853) and his wife Fortunata Franco .

Their eldest child that ...

Re: Why was February 5 a popular day to get married

I had a look, but it might just be a coincidence! It was a Saturday, which was probably a popular day to be married. Not sure if there was a festival going on in the town at the time.
Always interesting when you come across things like this :)

Re: Question about writing to comuni for birth/death/marriage records

Thank you very much! You are too kind.
And yes, I understand why you would look at their websites.

Ahh I see, that makes sense I think :)

Re: Question about writing to comuni for birth/death/marriage records

I also wouldn't worry about asking for a translation into English. I've done pretty well reading the records on Antenati (I know little Italian but it's not too hard to figure out, and Google Translate has helped) :)

Re: Question about writing to comuni for birth/death/marriage records

I'll write later with a sample text of the request, in Italian (it is better).
Where did you find the names of the comuni and the persons you want to ask about?
Have you used the most used websites, Family Search and Antenati?
Here you find the photos of the pages of the original registers ...

Re: Question about writing to comuni for birth/death/marriage records

I'll give you details later.
Please tell me in which Country you are and your purpose,
you need a photo of the register (as those on Family Search) to study the genealogy of the family or a certificate to be used for administrative use (request of cizenship, or other use in your Country) or both ...

Re: Question about writing to comuni for birth/death/marriage records

Oh, and is it better to write an email asking whether they can provide documents BEFORE I give them a list of all the people I want etc? I dunno how it works over there.

Question about writing to comuni for birth/death/marriage records

Ciao a tutti

I've been wanting to write to several comuni in Calabria for a while now, to request records for my boyfriend's family tree (he's the Italian one!) that are not on Antenati - they will be from the 1900s, albeit people who are deceased. It's unlikely we'll be visiting Italy any time ...

Google Translate is your friend. :)

Plus there's lots of pictures in those instructions.

Re: Birth record missing?! (Cinquefrondi, Reggio di Calabria)

No, however I came across a FamilySearch record that said Giuseppe's father was from Giffone . And I've just found Rosaria's birth registration from Giffone!!! Amazing... Finally!

I'm now wondering whether Giuseppe and Catarina were married in Giffone too (and moved to Cinquefrondi later where they ...
