Likely mother's surname for Marianna is Cardinale, and likely surame of Carmelo's mother Concetta is Carmella--based on names listed on ship manifests with last residence and/or birth place as Bivona.
Possible birth record for Giuseppa Vasile (wife of Alfonso Marciante), born 1860. This is in line with the age of Giuseppa on the 1898 manifest (age 37).

Thank you all so much. Yes my (great) uncle Paul was born on New Year's Eve, so that works. My Grandmother - his older sister - was born about 2 years earlier, it may have been in New York before they moved to the Chicago area.
My grandfather is Alfonso Marciante (Luigi - born 1882 -'s son). Yes they were first cousins, growing up separated by 800 miles with different last names no one checked... Marriage may have been in New York (they honeymooned at Niagra Falls) but I have not been able to find any record of it.
I will have to fond a local LDS center here in the Chicago suburbs to continue the birth record research. Thanks Tessa for finding Alfonso there in Bivona, that confirms the area they moved from.

So we have...
GGGF - Alfonso Marciante - b. 1850
GGF - Luigi Marciante - b. 1882
GF - Alfonso Marciante --- DOB ??? Place of birth ???
What is grandmother's maiden name? (wife of GF Alfonso) Date of Marriage?
T.
Hi Biff! Nice finds on the sisters' marriage records.
GM is Concettina Vasile born 25 Oct 1908. I do not have their marriage date.
Alfonso was born 20 June 1908.
Both of these are from family knowledge, so far I have not found any birth records - if anyone could help with that I would be appreciative. My GM was born at home - not unusual at the time - and repeatedly said she had no birth certificate.
Biff - can you post links to those marriage records or at least the site you found them at? I have no idea where to find them.

Italians have a long and deep-rooted tradition of beliefs about luck and things that give either good or bad luck. In Italy there are colloquial names for bad luck. Think of:"sfiga" or "jella" (read it as "yella), but the most scary thing for millions of Italians is "Il Malocchio", which translate ...
