Re: translation for death record Annunziata Lozito
Hi Tessa,
thanks! so this adds another layer of confusion for us! A distant cousin (whose family this is) and I are trying to trace this line, particularly in relation to the mother of Annunziata (wife of Giuseppe), who we have in all other records as Domenica. We have her listed as the mother of Rocco on his birth (declarant above; who should be Annunziata's brother) as well many other records. We believe the last sibling in this line, Rosa, was born in 1899 and died shortly after birth. Here is the death record.
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
The confusing part is (1) this record has the mother as Carmella, not Domenica and (2) we can find no records at all for Domenica. much of the family relocated to the US just before 1920, including Giuseppe. On the US census in 1920, he is listed as a widow. But we can't find her death, or their marriage.
We're scratching our heads over this one!

Re: translation for death record Annunziata Lozito
The writing is very difficult to read, and I may have read it incorrectly.
OR...
It may just be a mistake by the clerk.
I will take another look
EDIT***
It could very well be Domenica... it looks very similar to the declarant's given name Domenico.
I would go with Domenica

Re: translation for death record Annunziata Lozito
well...that DOES help
! but still...on the hunt for Domenica's marriage, birth or death. I'll take any of them LOL!!!

Re: translation for death record Annunziata Lozito
If Annunziata Lozito died 16 July 1914 at age 23, she would have been born about 1891 or so.
That would make the marriage of Domenica Lucarelli and Giuseppe Lozito sometime before 1891.
Are you certain that Rocco is a son of theirs? His birth would have been about 1884. Marriage sometime before that...
Will see what I can find.

Re: translation for death record Annunziata Lozito
thanks Tessa! Yes, Rocco is confirmed.
Angela on this forum assisted with that. He was indeed born in Altamura in 1884.
Birth No 611: Rocco Lozito
Altamura: 15 Septemer 1884
Father: Giuseppe Lozito, of Grumo, 23 (1861), cocchiere, living Altamura.
Mother: Domenica Lucariello, Giuseppe's wife, cucitrice
Rocco born 4 am, 13 September 1884, via La Maggiore, No 30, presented and named Rocco.
Side Note: Married 26 October 1908, Index 142, Altamura – marries Caterina Panaro
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Yet, I couldn't find a marriage for them in Altamura going back to about 1878 or so. Giuseppe was born in Grumo Appula and I tried there too.

Re: translation for death record Annunziata Lozito
Hello Tessa,
I've been following the string and would like to thank both you and Jennifer very much for your help! My name is Denise, the distant cousin Jennifer mentioned.
Yes, Rocco is the first born of several children to Domenica Lucariello and Giuseppe Lozito. Based on the birth record info, it appears certain that Annuziata is his sister. Here is Rocco's birth record:

Happy to help!
Hopefully, we are not done yet!
You may wish to add this to your files...
It is the Marriage Allegati (attachments) for Rocco's marriage to Caterina (1908- #142)
It includes his birth extract, her birth extract, the publication of banns and the certificate of no opposition.

While searching for the marriage of Annunziata Lozito, I stumbled across the marriage of another daughter of Giuseppe Lozito and Domenica Lucariello -- her name is Filomena Lozito.

Re: translation for death record Annunziata Lozito
wow Tessa! that's fantastic!! I don't think we had Filomena in our tree so that is a great addition
! thanks so much!
As is the marriage allegati. We had Annuziata's birth I think, but glad to see that you found the same issue with the spelling of the name.
Oh...and we actually found Annuziata's marriage...in 1911...in New York City! The groom's name is the same as on her death record. She must have come back to Italy afterwards for some reason...it's a mystery so far!
