Liberty-Ellis database manifests?

I found my Italian grandparents in the Liberty-Ellis Island database (online). It seems the original manifests were written (in English) by the same person, which may make sense since I suspect many passengers did not write (or even speak) English in the early 1900s.

I wanted to confirm whether these manifests were written on board, maybe on boarding, or were the created in New York?

I am still trying to find if my grandparents really did meet at sea when (family rumor) my grandfathers ship had engine trouble and he apparently transferred to my grandmothers ship (at sea), they met and were married days before arrival. Manifests show they arrived on different ships on the same day, although my grandfathers ship left Naples 8 days before my grandmothers ship. I still cannot confirm this as the manifests do not seem to show marriages on board, etc.

Grandfather is: Michele Fusco from Sessa Aurunca, Italy and arrived on March 26th, 1907 on the Italia. Grandfathers manifest (Passenger ID 800193110071) on slide 0385. Ship left Naples on March 5 but did see another manifest page that is stopped in Palermo on March 7.
Grandmother is Filomena Integlia from Teano, Italy (misspelled in Ellis database as: Tuleglio Filomena, from Ceano, Italy). I let them know the digitized copy was wrong since I saw she wrote in she was visiting sister in Providence (same address as other sister) and I knew her age. I think the cursive writing threw off the digitization. Grandmothers manifest (Passenger ID 800195060034) on slide 0527. Ship left Naples on March 13.
Ironically they both arrived on the same day....maybe due to stops along the way?

You may want to get your hands on a book called The Family Tree Guide to Finding Your Ellis Island Ancestors by Sharon DeBartolo Carmack. One subject I know she addresses is how passenger lists were created and what they contain. I know she talks about babies born at sea, for example, and how they are generally listed on the last page of a ship's passenger manifest, or at the bottom of any page where the ship's clerk could find room. I believe she also talks about marriages at sea, but I don't own a copy of the book and can't see a preview of this section of the book on googlebooks.com. Possibly you could find a copy at a local library.

If, for you example, you want to go page by page for Michele Fusco's March 26th 1907 ship's manifest-you can go to stevemorse.org and then to the missing manifest option on that website. Then if you enter series T 715, roll 852, and frame 277, you can go page by page on this manifest and see if you find any hidden notations about your ancestor, even if not on the page where his name is listed.

Thanks for the advice.
I did page through all the original pages of the manifest and didn't find anything.

There were some notations made above my grandfathers name that I was later informed were added years later when he completed a form Declaration of Intention to Naturalize (it was a date and document number). He never did naturalize though.

On the Intention document he listed that he married in Providence RI in 1908 *year after he arrived). But both grandparents records indicate Married (but on different ships). He settled in Hartford but both grandparents had siblings in Providence. And if the story holds that they met on board ship.....that's interesting. So we think they married at a church in Providence since there are no marriage records in CT or RI. But so far no luck with the churches (still looking).
Apparently I need the marriage certificate for dual citizenship...and hoping maybe there is Captains diary/log, etc. that would prove any marriage on board.

Thanks again. I just read all the missing manifest pages for grandfather.
Interesting that Steve's tool indicated March 25, yet the manifest says March 26.

How did you find the "series T 715, roll 852, and frame 277"?
I wanted to look the same for my grandmother ship but not sure how I find the series, roll, for her.

Basically trial and error. I first put in the date you had of March 26. 1907. That gave me T715, roll 853, frame 1. I then kept hitting the +4 option until I had exhausted all frames for that roll. I then tried the next roll 854, and went through the same procedure. Then when I didn't see the ship there, I went to roll 852, where I found the ship. I just kept going back and forth with the frames until I found the first frame for the ship and date.

What was the name of the ship for your grandmother? You only mentioned the date in your post above. Using my trial and error method, see if you can find it. I know it's time consuming, but if you find the correct ship, it's easier to view the manifest images there than on the Ellis Island website.

My grandfathers ship was the Italia and grandmother ship was the Roma.
I notice the Italia seemed to have made 2 stops after departing Naples so maybe that is why it took longer to arrive as well.

The Roma is the next ship after the Italia on the missing manifest option-starts with frame 476. You may have already found it.
