Re: Iaconetti Foundling Birth Act Translation Help Please
It states that a child of unknown parents was left at the wheel of the abandoned at hour 7 last, without any sign or note. The child was recognized to be about one day old and was given, by the official, into the care of Domenica Fusaro(?) Wife of Pier Angelo Franco(?) Rosa.

Hello,
Thank you so much for your time and translation. I am surprised they did not wrap the baby in anything that could be identified later. I guess they were not going to reclaim him. I found it interesting that the last name given to the baby was a form of the name Iaco, as Nicola Iaco was one of the witnesses present. Does this imply to the town that there was a connection between him and the baby? I wonder who chose the names of foundlings? Thanks again for your time. I am a newbie and have tried to reply several times. Please excuse possible multiple replies...

The infant, of uncertain parents, was wrapped in some rags that didn't have any initial or letter with it. It also didn't have have any distinguishing marks on its body. The woman Domenica*, to whom the infant was assigned, was a wetnurse, as infants in those days were primarily breastfed. The two witnesses were just living on the same street and, more than likely, had no connection to the abandoned infant. The name given to the infant was invented or made up by the town official normally, upon its presentation at the town hall.
* her husband's surname was Feracorosa
I was looking for info in the Lista di Leva (military conscription) in Cosenza and found the following:

Re: Iaconetti Foundling Birth Act Translation Help Please
Cassavia is the correct surname in Acri. Also Domenica's surname looks like Tusaro to me. In the lista di leva records, the surname appears this way, but in current times, it appears as Tufaro. I believe one of these is more accurate than Fusaro, as I don't believe the initial letter in Domenica's surname is formed the same way as the initial letter in Pierangelo's surname which starts with the letter F.

Wow! Thank you Erudita74 for your amazingly detailed reply and additional information on the names of the wet nurse in this birth act. Also, thank you for taking it one step further and finding Angelo and his son's military records!! Your time and dedication to answering requests on this forum is much appreciated. This is my husband's great grandfather's birth act. He was enthralled to hear the new details and again I can't thank you enough. Sorry for the delay in the reply, I have been off line for several days.
