ROCCO STRAZZA - origin in ITALY

I'm trying to locate the origin of my maternal grandfather ROCCO STRAZZA. Rocco was born in Italy about 1870. His parents were Domenico Antonio Strazza and Maria Antonia DiPIETRO. Rocco emigrated to the United States in the late 1880's and married Rosaria PRESTO in 1892 in Manhattan, NY. He moved to Greenwich, CT where he worked as a stone mason. He died in 1951. I have not found where Rocco was born in Italy, but suspect he may have come from SICILY. If you have any knowledge of the birthplace of Rocco Strazza I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

It is hard to find the birthplace... however the other Strazzas in Fairfield Co, CT, coming from Morra Irpina( current: Morra De Sanctis) in Avellino province; in this Common it are the surname Strazza as a well Di Pietro ( with space- in italian spell)

Here is a US Naturalization Index card for Rocco. His naturalization date is Oct 17, 1898. Also on the card is the location of the Certificate # (Volume 9, page 142) which is at the Common Pleas Court in Bridgeport, Connecticut. If you can get his application, you may find his place of birth.

The Manhattan marriage that you mention is listed at italiangen.org
The Certificate number is the last number on the right. You can use that to request the marriage certificate from NYC Vital records if you don't have it. http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vi ... iage.shtml
That may also give you a clue to the town of birth. Will definitely list the names of both sets of parents.

Dear Mr Carino it is quite OK to converse with us and your wanting to know why i think MORRA DE SANCTIS is the town of origin for ROCCO STRAZZA and I wanted everyone to explore other possible reasons why they may think certain places may be the town of origin. Your PM is apprfeciated though and I thank you for observing my sensibilities.

For my part I believe that since the telephone directory has both Strazza and Di Pietro listed in ample numbers and that the patron Saint for the town is Saint Rocco. Writing to the town on that basius is good judgement frommyh point of view. Please keep intocuh with us. =Peter=
