Interesting....thanks!

Come to think of it, I may have seen this before but it was a long time ago and I couldn't even tell you where I saw it.

Thank you, both... as always, especially in south Italy, the dialects are very helpful for to understand the "old" words... currently, in modern age, "forese" is no used... normally is used: "bracciante"... but this word have a similar meaning, but no as "forese" precisely...

back to dialect: "fora" litterally: out... but "fora" ( so "forese") have yes the meaning of "out" but it have also the meaning, in south Italy, of "coutryside"; so the "forese" was the laborer that working "fora" ( in the countryside) but he can be resident or no resident in countryside...

so the "forese" no resident in countryside, working from dawn to sunset, and after back at home in the village...
the "forese" resident in countryside, obviously, going in the village only for some occasion... him life is in the countryside...

in the case of this topic, Gennaro was resident in the village( town) and working in the coutryside ("fora"= out of village)
