Natualization Cert.
Re: Natualization Cert.
It sure would be great for all of us if the exchange rate would improve. The first time we were in Italy, the exchange was $.84 = 1 Euro. If only. . . (sigh)

Re: Natualization Cert.
just had to throw this out there but, reading everyones trips to italian mcdonalds made me realize that I will have an italian passport before ever even stepping foot in italy. I am ashamed. Just curious if this is the case for anyone else out there? how many of us are getting citizenship recognized before even going to italy
?

Re: Natualization Cert.
No need to feel ashamed! There are probably many people who have gone through the citizenship process who have never been to Italy, and others still who will never get there. Imo, the reasons that people decide to pursue citizenship are as varied as the people themselves. You're YOUNG! You have some time to save for your upcoming trip - even if it doesn't happen for a decade or two!

Scream, i spent a whole 36 hours in the north. 21 driving with friends. got weird looks when walking around (probably because of my pink shorts). I did laundry(in austria) the day before we drove to italy and the only shorts i had were white. well i guess a red piece of material got into my laundry and turned all my whites pink. could not find any shorts at all so i walked around with my pink shorts on and the looks i got i have not forgotten. its a great memory. you will get there one day just have faith. Now since my wife has trained me not to mix colors i will have no problem with my cloths.lol
Good luck

Sounds like you've got the right idea. Since you're a native son, don't be surprised if the whole town comes out to congratulate you when you renew your vows in your ancestral comune because the bans of marriage will be posted and the word will get out that you have come back. I had similar experiences while I was living in the comune where all four of my grand-parents were born. If you really want to feel connected in Italy, the way to do it is to live with your own people instead of with non-Italian foreigners who flock to the tourist cities.

Gottogetit, I can confidently assure you that there is no Mc Donalds in your grand-fathers town and that nearly all Italians from the provinces do not eat at Mc Donalds.
