DURANTE surname at Castelfranco Veneto
DURANTE surname at Castelfranco Veneto
Hello,
Does anybody know if DURANTE is a typical surname of Castelfranco Veneto?
I'm posing this question because I'm trying to discover the comune the family of Antonio Durante & Lucia Simioni is from. To the best of my knowledge, this family emigrated to Brazil around 1880...1890, and I believe they are from Castelfranco Veneto (but I haven't any document to support this argument... my belief is based on the talks I had with my grandmother).
In addition, the couple had (at least) five children: Fioravante (born circa 1855), Giovanni (born circa 1871), Luigia, Oliva, and Maria.
Any help will be extremely appreciated. Also, if someone has a tip of how to address this problem in a better way, I'd be grateful too.
Regards,
Edinei

Thank you TerraLavoro.
Your answer addresses my question (it seems that even today there are DURANTE persons living at Castelfranco Veneto), but doesn't solve my problem. I'm still thinking how I'll arrive in the name of the comune of my ancestors.
If someone has a tip to share, surely it'll be helpful.

Edinei

Re: DURANTE surname at Castelfranco Veneto
Did they naturalize as Brazilian citizens? Could you check their naturalization records?
Would marriage records of their children possibly list the town of birth of the parents?
Are there ship manifest records that might include their last place of residence in Italy?
These are avenues for you to try.

Thank you again, TerraLavoro!
With the help of the Google Search Engine, I found a blog with some evidences, contacted the blog's owner, and she was able to give me some details.
Specifically:
- Antonio Durante was born in June 15th 1826, at Vedelago/TV, son of Angelo Durante & Maria Domenica Fassinato
- Lucia Simioni was born in May 9th 1835, at Salvatronda (frazione of Castelfranco Veneto/TV)
Antonio & Lucia married in October 7th 1857, at Albaredo (frazione of Vedelago/TV).
Well, now that I have these data, I need to find documents to corroborate these finding.
Regards,
Edinei

Re: DURANTE surname at Castelfranco Veneto
Edinei, both towns have some records online at Familysearch.org, but not for the years of the events that concern you. Hopefully the town registers will contain the records that you need, but you will have to write to them directly to request them.
I have spent some time in those small towns in the Veneto......very nice there.
Let us know if you need more help.

Re: DURANTE surname at Castelfranco Veneto
Thank you very much TerraLavoro & suanj!
The marriage act of Sante Fioravante Durante and Santa Soldà is the first (real) document I read that ties the roots of this Durante Family Branch to Vedelago, TV. So I'm very happy with it and very grateful to you, suanj.
I set up (some days ago) a small website to publish the history of this family branch. For those interested, the address is: https://sites.google.com/site/durantesimioni/ .
Best regards,

Thank you johnnyonthespot & erudita74!
Regarding the Orsola's surname, I also suspected it was Gemin. But, since I was in doubt, I put it in red in the aforementioned website. Now, with this confirmation, I'll put it in black color.
It's interesting to observe how this post gained momentum and all the useful feedback I received. This is indeed a great community with a huge sense of collaboration.
