If nothing else turns up, you can request a copy of your grandmother's Social Security application form.

Tessie was born in Italy and immigrated in 1915 with mother.... finding Tessie Domino (Teresa Domino) ship's manifest we can know the mother maiden name also... but my opinion is that Josephine was widowed when married at John... so maybe Tessie was born from her first marriage

Hi: Why don't you request a copy of your grandmother's NY death certificate? It will list both her parents names.

Re: looking for maiden name of my grandmother
Not entirely reliable. I have seen death certificates that were missing one or both names and others that had an incorrect name.gemellua wrote:Hi: Why don't you request a copy of your grandmother's NY death certificate? It will list both her parents names.
The social security application form is more likely to be accurate since the person him/herself filled in the application and typically at a time when both parents were still living and thus there was little doubt as to their names.

In any event, the OP seems to be hoping for a free or ultra low cost solution. Unfortunately, sometimes the only way to move research forward is to spend some money.

Re: looking for maiden name of my grandmother
Hopefully the grandmother lived long enough to obtain a ss number. Good luck in your research.
