Possible name for Bringley

Post by bring »

My Great grandfather immigrated to the US in 1859/1860 from Northern Italy (Liguria, Piedmont, Aosta Valley or east Lombardy). All we know is that he traveled on a French ship. Since there were no papers or passports at that time; the US has his name as Peter Bringley. Can anyone please give me some insight on a possible Italian spelling to the name-from this region? What ports or ships might he of used (passenger? merchant?) he was abt 18 years old.

It is possible that his named was Bringheli -
which is found in Comune of Milan, Province of Milan, Lombardy Region

It would sound like Bringley :-)

So I think he was Pietro Bringheli...

Where did your GGF live in the US?

And on the 1870 Census in Seneca, Ontario County, New Yor... he lists Italy :-)

that is a problem for me too... so when I write the reply, before of send it, I select all txt, and copy it, and then I send.. to 90% of times, the reply vanished, I must re-write it again,
but now I just paste it, and send it immediately, and no problems...
