Find a Town Listed on Death Record

Post by ecparetti »

My Great Grandfather, Andrew(Andrea) Vianesi died in New York in 1945. On the death record, his birthplace was listed as Lascaraes, Italy. The closest spelling I could find was the town of Lascari, which is about 50 km from Palermo. This is possible, but I believe he came from Northern Italy. Looking up his surname in the Pagine Bianche
showed listings near Torino and Milan. Would anyone have any information of towns in northern Italy. Thanks as always.

There is a comune (town) in Torino Province (Piedmont Region) called La Cassa.

Today, the surname Vianesi is found in the provinces of Biella and Novara in Piedmont Region, but in very small numbers.

As you can see by this surname distribution map, the surname Vianesi is found in only 7 towns presently. All are in the northern part of Italy.

In Santo Stefano d'Aveto, province of Genova, there's a hamlet named Ascona.
There are a lot of Cella's, too, and in this thread:

http://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/language/37453

is mentioned one Teresa Bianesi or Vianesi, daughter of Andrea.
But it's just a guess.

There is a comune called Carasco -- province Genova -- region Liguria
Sounds a lot like Lascaraes without the "las" :-)

The surname CELLA is found in Carasco...
And the surname Vianesi is found in Province of Genova.

I found the birthplace..? I believe yes...

Lascaraes is just a bad trascription of Toscana.. I am pretty sure.. that the wrong name referring the region and no the birthtown, because I am pretty sure that Andrea Vianesi was born in Zeri town, Massa-Carrara province, Toscana region...
I found the Death act of the Andrea's father:
Domenico Vianesi, 84 old, born in Zeri, resident in Zeri, son of late Giovanni and of late Maria Antonia Rossi, widow of Domenica Ferrari, died in Zeri on 22 Feb 1905 #9
