Ancestor's Occupation
Ancestor's Occupation
Greetings, Today I visited the local Church of the Latter Day Saints to view microfilm from Mazano Appio, Italy. On the birth record for my husband's great grandmother's brother the occupation for his father was listed as "annese". The woman helping me did not know that word and I was wondering if anyone could please help me with the translation. 3 years later on another brother's birth record the father was listed as "Falegname" which the woman told me meant farmer. I'm wondering if that is correct for the translation. Thank you for any help you can give me. DeMari
Re: Ancestor's Occupation
A falegname was a carpenter not a farmer.
As to the other occupation-are you should it wasn't written as mannese? posting the document for us to see would be the best thing-
suanj posted this info for someone else on the forum
Mannese
a craftsman who, thanks to his ability to work with wood and iron, could build and/or repair wagons. In practice, in the past time when locomotion was with wagons and carriages, the mannese was as the auto repair of our current time. He knew to place the circles in the wheel, put the fat to allow it to work better axes, coat the wheel hub of iron, etc ... Usually, the shops of these workers were concentrated in the main city street.

Re: Ancestor's Occupation
Falegname = carpenter
As for "annese" - I do not know this word.
Can you post an image of the document? Perhaps we can read the word for you...
FYI - here is a link to Italian Occupations which you may find helpful in the future

Re: Ancestor's Occupation
Thank you so very much. Today I did not take a flash drive to download the documents on the microfilm. On my next visit I will be better prepared and then show you the document as well. Again thank you!
Re: Ancestor's Occupation
Here's another list someone put together on the internet. I can't say how accurate it is though.
