I found Allegati for 1902-1903. Giuseppe's son Antonino had a 2nd marriage on 18 Apr 1903 to Accursia La Rocca. Not sure how they organize the allegatti records as it seems totally random.

There is no index for allegatti... :-(

They can include births, deaths, and marriages (in no particular order)
It takes time to go through these records.

I know, tell me about it! I've spent many hours pouring through microfilms of processetti records in my ancestral commune of Marzano Appio, but when I've found one, it's a major score, allowing me to trace back several generations all in one packet of records. At least from the looks of these records, there is a cover page for each marriage packet.

Yes, checking the covers is the way I search, too.

Couples were usually married in the hometown (comune) of the bride. If his spouse was born in a different town, the allegatti would be kept there.

You might want to look for a Publication of Banns for them. One would have been filed in the groom's comune as well.

EDIT TO ADD***

The banns indicate that both were born in Sciacca...

It also mentions the death of Antonino's first wife, Maria, in New York in 1891.

Thanks T. Attached is the marriage record for them (Antonino & Accursia), I believe they were both from Sciacca. Also if you look at the bottom of this record, it lists all of their children, and from what I gather they had them all before they were married.

I just posted the banns which I mentioned above indicating their births in Sciacca, and also indicated the death of Antonino's first wife, Maria, in New York in 1891.

It is possible that Antonino and Accursia were married in the church, but not civilly.
If you locate one of the births of the children, you may get some clarity on that.

Intersting point about the marriage. Does it say that her death was not entered into the registry in Sciacca until March 1903?

Yes, it does. 22 March 1903 transcribed into the register (probably because it was required for the marriage)

Death on 28 April 1891.

hmmm....a little confused. Just found what looks like Antonino's 1st marriage in 1873 (not Maria Corrao) to 'Accursia Scalfani'. Antonino is listed as 23yrs old (b.1850, although i still can't find his birth record) and looks like the age of Accursia Scalfani is only 15 years old? is this correct? It's hard to read, and I can't tell what it says immediately following her age either. I wonder if Maria Corrao was really his 2nd wife, although on those bans you showed me it clearly says 'prima'.

That is understandably confusing...

Here is the transcribed death of Maria Corrao, recorded in 1903.
It mentions that she was married, but I do not see a husband named.
Her father was Antonino, and her mother was Accursia...
She died of pneumonia (polmonite)

Women at that time in Sicily were listed with their own names, and it's certainly very possible that the 2 spouses have the same surname before they were married (especially since the practice of marrying cousins was so widespread, despite being illegal), but on death records you often find the mother's surname as the same as her husband's just because the person reporting the death didn't know what the mother's surname was. So in this case one really can't be so confident that Saveria's surname was Vitale.

BTW, the name of Francesco Proietto/Vitale's mother was Rosaria, not Saveria. Look at the death record again.

There were at least 2 other couples in Sciacca having children around 1780 where the husband was Giuseppe Vitale and the wife was Rosaria. One of the women was Rosaria Amato and the other was Rosaria Pumilia. Either one could've been the same person as Rosaria Vitale, and indeed all 3 could've been the same person.

The parents of Maria Corrao may have been Antonino Corrao and Accursia Frsicia. Here is a link to that Antonino:

https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/pe ... 3196/facts

There only other couple that I could see as a possibility were the parents Antonino Corrao and Accursia Amorelli of a Caterina Corrao born in Sciacca in 1861. I don't know anything else about them at this point, though, but they seem to be younger than the other Antonino & Accursia couple.

I quickly searched marriage indexes in Sciacca for the ranges 1873-1881, 1885-1887, and 1890-1891 but didn't see any record for Antonino Vitale and Maria Corrao. They could've been married in one of the other years or maybe I missed it. For some of those other years there are no indexes for the marriage acts, or even no acts online. For some years there are marriage banns, without an index.

Her age is 15 "compiuti," that is, she had already reached her 15th birthday. The legal marriageable age for a woman was 15 at that time (before 1866 it was 12 in Sicily). Since ages were often rounded up, by writing compiuti they were making it clear that she wasn't really 14.

After that it says she had no occupation, she was born and residing in Sciacca, and her parents were Pasquale Sclafani and Caterina Geraldi, both of whom were still alive at that time and residing in Sciacca.
