Emigrated to Brazil
Emigrated to Brazil
Our great-great aunt, Luiza Zagato emigrated to Tietê, São Paulo, Brazil and married Carmine Canatelli. I saw a record that suggested she was married before, but not sure to whom. And that she had a child with that marriage: Antonio. But nothing more. She supposedly died 16 July 1940 in the same town / city in Brazil. The only information that I found was that of the marriage record which stated her name to be Luigia Zagotti. Her sister is named Luigia and as far as we understand, she remained in Italy. We have all sorts of confusion between these two sisters. Their parents were Angelo Zagato and Maria Del-Passo from Guarda Veneto, Rovigo, Italy.
I'm looking for Luiza's death / burial records and any pertinent information. Thank you.

Do you know also some date? Of birth, marriage, emigration?

The year of birth on the birth act above is 1873...

Here is the marriage of a brother, Luigi Zagato, in Guarda Veneta in 1892. (same parents)
PERHAPS, Luigia had a brother, not a sister, who remained in Italy???

Re: Emigrated to Brazil
Hi Tessa,
Luigia was a sister of Luisa... Luisa married to Carmine Canatelli, in Brasil... I cannot find her arrival....
I found Luigia, but I no found Luisa.
Maybe she was born before of 1871... who know ... if the poster can add more details... maybe we can help better....
hugs,
suanj

Hi suanj
Yes, more details would be of help. For instance, at what age was Luisa when she died in Brazil in 1940?

Re: Emigrated to Brazil
For a while, we were wondering if Luigia and Luiza were the same person, but we concluded that they are not. Teresa78 mentioned that maybe Luigia is really a male: Luigi. I think that you may have discovered a sibling. It is my belief that this family of Angelo and Maria loved giving their children similar names, probably in honor of family members: Luigia, Luiza, Luigi and they have two different daughters with the same name of Elisabetta.
Re: Emigrated to Brazil
Hi,
well,
I found Luigia ZAGATO Birth record, and it was on alsothe marriage note to Casimiro Natale Marchesini.
So Luigia Zagato was female.
If Luigia had a Brother named Luigi is no important for the search.
I believe that to continue, the next step is to descover if Luigia Marchesini nee Zagato, became Luiza in Brasil, so if the two women, sisters, are instead just one and the same, Luigia aka Luiza.
It needs to find the Death record of Casimiro Natale Marchesini, if he died before of 1902, and eventually, if the couple had a son named Antonio. and look for their immigration to Brazil...
I believe that Luigia was Luiza, because I no found a Birth record abt Luiza(Luisa in italian spelling)..

Re: Emigrated to Brazil
Hello suanj:
Yes, we found that record as well; Luigia' birth & note of her marriage to Machesini.
We did find a record of a marriage to but it said, Luigia Zagotti to Carmine Canatelli – Luiza was found via MyHeritage through another's genealogy and that it took us to Brazil.
We went to that conclusion as well, that the two sisters are one and the same. But at times, as we research, it seems that they are not. A little tricky because we have not found additional records up to this point.
Thank you for the suggestions! We really do appreciate it!

Re: Emigrated to Brazil
I am also of the notion that the sisters were the same person, and that the "Luigia" that was said to have stayed in Italy may have actually been a "Luigi" who stayed in Italy. That is an important point.
And also may have been the reason for the confusion... LOL
