Chicago Giordanos

Post by BrooklynStroonze »

I'm looking for any information on my Great Grandparents. My Great Grandfather Alessandro Giordano born in Italy around 1878 was married to Anna Celnelli (b. 1888?) lived in Chicago and they had 6 children. Albert, Adam, Emily, Antonia, Kate, & Helen.

My Grandfather Albert was born in Cook county June 20, 1912 and died in Brooklyn, NY July 23, 1963. I have a reissued birth certificate that he had received in 1942, unfortunately it's pretty vague. It states his name at birth was Umberto Gugliermo Giordano, he was the 3rd child, Alessandro was 34 and Anna was 24. It states Alessandro's occupation was as a printer and both parents were born in Italy. It doesn't say where but my Father believes it was Salerno, Sa but not really sure.

That's all I know. My Grandfather came to Brooklyn, NY and married my Grandmother Ann Pantone, they had 2 children Alexander (my Father) and Elaine. I never met him and unfortunately my family is not made up of any genealogists...... So it's up to me!

I appreciate any help, thanks!

Go after birth certificates for their older children. May include birth place for Allessandro & Anna. Mine from chicago did.

Ask Cynthia to do a search for you. She is very good and inexpenseive>

Also, get their death certificates which may contain this information.

Did not find find listing under Giordiano.

Where did Alessandro & Anna marriage? If married in Chicago, check for complete marriage record.

Do you have them on any census records?

Hope this helps

I found this 1920 census with an Ann Pantone from NY born in 1913 that I'd thought I'd post. Is she your grandmother by any chance? Not sure if it helps or if you've even seen it but here it is anyway.

Til the image gets posted!

1920 Brooklyn, Kings, NY
Alexander Giordano 52 Italy immgrated 1895, alien; occu: printer in gun shop
Anna (wife) 35 Italy immigrated 1895, alien
Adam 20 NY, occu: printer in printing shop
Emily 17 NY, occu: tailor in tailor shop
Susie 14 NY
Albert 7 NY

Maybe this is the reason why Cook County, IL could not find a birth record on Albert & did a reissued certificate.

Hi Joyce,

Here is the information about the 1930 census. On this census it does state that Albert was born in Illinois. Hopefully someone in the group can post the image for you. It's a 2 page census for there is a sister, Susan on page 2 born in NY.

Name: Albert Giordano
Age: 28
Estimated birth year: abt 1902
Relation to head-of-house: Son
Father's Name: Aexandr Giordano
Mother's Name: Anna Giordano
Home in 1930: Brooklyn, Kings, New York
Image source: Year: 1930; Census Place: Brooklyn, Kings, New York; Roll: 1523; Page: 11A; Enumeration District: 1385; Image: 653.0.

Thanks Trish.

So Albert was born 1902-1905 IL. & not 1912. Guess he wanted to be 10 years (?) younger!
