Well,wow! I thought it was my GM's twin at first and that the dates may have been incorrect. Are you sure the dod for the 1st Vincenza was June 1907? At 1yr 17 days wouldn't that be 1908? And, my grandmother was born a month before the 1st Vincenza died?

So, I'm looking at your messages again. If the 1st Vincenza died 1 yr 17 days after her birth that would be mid May. Makes sense now. I thought yiu wrote that she died in June. My GM was birn on the sane month and the 1st Vincenza was the 2nd twin to die so perhaps that's why my GM ended up a Vincenza and not a Bellittu. Sane hapoened in my grandfather's family where one sibling died and the gave the next born the same name.

The twins were born 7 May 1907 (a year before your GM was born)

I apologize for the confusion... I thought I had typed 1 month and 17 days. That is the correct age for Vincenza at her death. Both twins died within a couple of months of their birth.

They died in June and July of 1907 - and your GM was born about 10 months later in 1908.

Got it all now. I am curious to learn the cause of death. Do you know of any documents that would list this? Does the morte never list the cause or was it that they did not due so in that time period?

The morti did not list cause of death. It was not done except in very unusual circumstances - such as transcribing a death notice that was sent from a place outside of the comune. These morti were usually found in the Parte II or Supplements of the book of deaths for that year. For instance, if someone died in a hospital or prison, or outside of the country (UK, USA, etc.) and a letter with a death notice was sent to the official to be recorded in the town of the deceased, then there might be a cause of death. And if it mentioned a cause of death it would be included in the transcription into the register of the comune because it would be transcribed exactly as written.

It is probable that the twins were born prematurely and that is why they only survived 1-2 months.

Hello Tessa,

Would like to ask for your help again. Both Antonino and Giovanna were my grandmother's parents. I have a copy of the birth certificate for my grandmother but I think its the short version that she requested back in 1965 and her parents are not listed. Her name is also spelled Bellitti. I wanted to know if you would be able to locate a bc with her parents names listed. I just want to be sure of the correct spelling of the name. I am also searching for one of her sisters named Mary who I think was older than Vincenza. I do see Paola and Rosa who came over with her but can't seem to find Mary travel with any parent.

My grandmother's name: Vincenza Bellitti / Bellitto, dob: 5/6/1908 in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicily.

Yes, I see I wrote another dob for her. Not sure where I got that. I'm sorry I'm a bit confused. I will try to figure out where I got that from. I will also get a copy of the bc to you as soon as I can. Let me see if I can get a pic to you.

The birth extract you posted (#277) is for the birth of Vincenza, the twin, who was born 7 May 1907, and died in June 1907 at age 1 month and 17 days.

I suspect that when your grandmother ( or whoever) sent for her birth act from Italy in 1965, they mistakenly extracted the information from the 1907 birth for the first Vincenza instead of her birth act from 1908 (#408). You can send to Sciacca for the correct birth act.

Ok, I will find out where I can request the correct bc. It looks like the SSDI has the incorrect dob listed for her & I suspect her gravestone also has the incorrect date. Will have to check. Well, this is a little messy.

It is probable that her application for Social Security reflected the date of birth on the birth extract that was sent to her in error. Likewise, her gravestone. Family would have used the information they had - the birth extract that Vincenza received from Italy. It is likely that she never knew about her infant sister, Vincenza, who died soon after birth, so she never questioned the accuracy of the birth extract she received.

Here is Vincenza "Jennie" Bellitti in my tree. It includes the marriage records of her parents and grandparents and goes back to her 3rd and sometimes 4th great-grandparents. Her grandfather Pellegrino Bellitto was a foundling so you're probably not going to be able to go further back for him.
