Hi,
In many of the church records in Latin that I have seen, the name Girolamo appears as Hieronymi or Hieronymus. However, in some of the church records from the 1600s, I have been seeing the name Geronimo. Would that also be translated as Girolamo?
Thank you!
First name translation?
Re: First name translation?
Latin: Hieronymus
Italian: Girolamo, Gerolamo, Geronimo, Geromino
English: Jerome (but my grandmother's older brother born in Sicily who was named Girolamo was called James or Jimmy in the U.S.)

Re: First name translation?
I would say that it is a possible Greek variation of the name.
Girolamo, Hieronymus and Geronimo (among other variaions) all translate to the English - Jerome.
