Help translating a birth document from 1823

Post by dpv »

Hello.

A few years ago someone from the Family History Center helped me find a document and then did a rudimentary translation. I certainly appreciated his help.

However, in review of this document, I have a few questions. I was hoping someone can help me.

From my read, Giovanni Visco (age 26; b 1797) and Giuseppina Scala have a child on July 28, 1823 in Petina.

On the right column of the first page it names the child: Domenico Antonio Visco

However, on the second page (first column, towards the top) there is another name that doesn't appear to be Domenico Antonio.

I have attached the document.

The questions are have are as follows:

1. What is the name of the child?
2. How old is the mother?
3. Is there anything else important in this document? Maybe witnesses and their professions?
4. Does the document list the profession of the father (Giovanni)?

Thank you, in advance!

Your second page is not the page 2 of the first document.

Here is the link to the original digitized record. It appears that when the records were photographed, a page was skipped. The second page in the sequence shows the same as what you have.

On the first page Giovanni is a 26yo laborer, and his wife is age 33.

The witnesses on page 2 are not for this record.

The correct second page is here

For some reason, the second page of the document is the image before the first page. Sorry had a problem with my internet and the image disappeared from my screen.

The two witnesses produced by the father were property owners in the town, age 40, and 30. The father was a bracciale, or day laborer.
