Nick for Ricardo

What is the nickname for Ricardo in Sicily.

It doesn't seem prevalent there.

I've done research in many Sicilian towns but don't recall ever seeing the first name Ricardo. I know that sometimes Rico is used as a shortened version or nickname for the name but I can't say it's used in Italy or Sicily.

I have a possible 5GG (found through a cadastre of landowners) with the first name of "Riccardo". He is a member of the only family that has proven ties to a neighboring commune. It is the ONLY instance of that name I have come upon in all of my research (including families with which I have no connection). It must be an extremely rare name in Italy/Sicily (at least from the time period)...

The name in Italy is Riccardo. I don't think it is particularly rare (I don't know in Sicily). Ricardo is the Spanish version, you find it in South America.

Has anyone heard either Rico or Cardo used as a nickname in their Italian/Sicilian family?
