Birth Certificate for Susanna delle Maschere

Susanna delle Maschere was born in 1856 in Atri and married Massimo di Gennaro. Her daughter, Anna Domenica di Gennaro is my 3x great grandmother. I was able to find a death certificate for her which says that she died in Montesilvano in Pescara on 2/8/1922, it says "padre ignato and madre ignato" which means mother and father unknown. I'm holding out hope that I can find a birth certificate to find her parents.

Since Susanna was age 66 there is a distinct possibility that the declarants of her death just did not know the names of her parents...

HOWEVER, on the marriage act with Massimo, she is also listed as the daughter of unknown father and unknown mother.

I have searched in Atri for years 1852-1858 and did not find Susanna. But you should be aware that if her birth act is located, it will probably indicate that she was abandoned, and her parents are unknown. Susanna would have had to produce a birth act for her marriage and the information on her marriage act would have come from her birth act.

I found Susanna's birth act in the "Diversi" where this town has the births of the abandoned.
The child was left at the Ruota (wheel). She was baptized at the parish of Santa Maria on 20 February 1855, the same day she was presented to the official and given the name Susanna delle Mascare.
There is an annotation of her marriage on 1 April 1880 with Massimo Di Gennaro at the bottom of the record.

The "wheel" was a rotating carousel in which an infant could be placed and turned so that the baby would appear inside of a care facility of sorts. It was in a wall without windows so the parent (or relative) could not be seen & could do so without shame. Here is an article decribing the wheel:
