Help translating church baptism and marriage of Bortolo Sartore

Post by deigo1 »

Hello, could someone help with translations of the baptism and marriage of my grandfather Bortolo Sartore (sometimes written Satori). The documents were provided by the church in San Martino di Lupari

His death translation was part of a longer post, but summary of that below:
Death No 132 – Bortolo Sartore, son of fu (deceased) Giovanni e fu (deceased) Elisabetta Zambon
Registered Monday, 8 December, 1873, San Martino di Lupari
Died on Sunday, 7 December 1873, 10 pm.
The deceased, Bortolo Sartore, son of Giovanni Bortolo and Elisabetta Zambon,
both deceased, was 69 yo, a villico, born and living here , the husband of Maria Pesce. He died in his own house situated in Via Supervilla, No 93.

Thank you,
D.

The marriage is dated 22 February 1828 and states that after publication of banns on 28 January, and 4 and 11 February, without opposition, Bartolomeo Sartori, son of deceased Giovanni and of living Elisabetta Zambon, born here on 7 August 1804, AND Maria Pesce, daughter of deceased Angelo and of living Santa Dengo, born here on 2 March 1816, were joined here in marriage. Witnesses: Martino Torniato, and Marco Santi.

Since no one has translated the baptism record-

Aug 7, 1804
Bartolomeo, son of Giovanni Sartori (who was the son of Angelo) and Elisabetta Zambon, the daughter of deceased Bartolo, born xxx night at 3 (Italian time) and was baptized by me, Don GioBattista Chiodo, archpriest. Godparents at the Holy Font were Francesco Mezzalira, the son of Mauro, and Maria Antonella, wife of Nicolo` Santi, son of Antonio, both of this town.

xxx-I don't know what the abbreviations are before the word for "night" in this record-so possibly he was born on the 6th or 5th, instead of the 7th, when the baptism took place.

In English for the poster-he was born three hours after the sunset in the night preceding August 7th, so in the evening of the 6th.

Thank you all for the help! ... great new information :)

Would we interpret the way Angelo is written in the baptism record, that he was living? The church has been very helpful if I can narrow the range of years down.

Thanks,
D.

In the baptism record, Angelo was alive.

Yes, Angelo, Giovanni Sartori's father, was alive at the time of Bartolomeo's birth. If he had been dead, in the act there would have been written "q(uonda)m Angelo", as for the father of Elisabetta Zambon "q(uonda)m Bortolo".

Thank you... So the use of quondam means "once was or former" indicating death similar to the use of "fu" daughter of the late Bortolo

Are the letters in front of Bortolo a type of short hand as "qm" vs writing the word?

Birth records are not just pieces of paper; they are the gateway to accessing essential services such as education, healthcare, employment, and social benefits.
