It's about 18-20 miles. I don't know if there are damages or victims...

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent website has a bulletin with a map at the bottom
Hopefully information on making donations for the people affected by the earthquake will be on the main website soon

Thank you so much VJ. Now we do not have to feel so helpless and can do something to help! My prayers will be with all those in Italy.

Cathy,
I know what you mean.
If the International Red Cross doesn't update their list for specific donations by tomorrow, I'm thinking maybe:
'where most needed' and 'Italy' on the donation page.

Victims are more than 150. missing 250 persons . 100.000 homeless.
Numbers are terrifying.
I'm searching lost relatives and descendant of my greatgrandfather Vincenzo Genualdi (or Gennaldi or Genuardi) and my greatgrandmother Concetta Davola (their sons: Angela, Carmela, Antonio, Bartolomeo, Ernesto, Simone, Riccardo, Maria) went in Chicago,Ill., and New Orleans, in 1880-1920 from Sicily. Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).

My family has relatives in Tocco da Casauria. Any news on damage? How to get a message through to survivors? Appreciate the link to the Red Cross.

My thanks to everyone on this list for their posts. Taken together, this information is very helpful.

Grazie.......

Oh, dear this is terrible. So far it is 179 with 37 still missing. That's bad, but better than I thought, given the destruction I've seen in the news. I pray they continue to find survivors. The NY Times also said the homeless number had been readjusted to 17,000, though, so that's good.

My mother's cousin has family in Teramo, not far from there. We haven't heard from her yet about her extended family. Hope they're okay.

On a genealogy-related note, I received this link this morning:

I was living in Ferrara when the 1976 Earthquake hit. I thought their young child was under the table and making it move. The wife was just serving up the pasta, Bucatelli with black mushrooms. The plates were sliding around and so on.

I looked up and saw the chandlier swinging from side to side and yelled TERRAMOLTO. It was my first experience of the ground moving & did not know to get out of the building. Everyone else ran outside to safety.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the victims, and to thoses that have suffered losses in their homes.

With deepest regards,

I also called Italy yesterday when I learned of the news. My husband has family in the near area but I haven't heard any news about them yet (although my mother in law was trying late last night). Now that I see Italysearcher is fine, I think they should also be ok since they are not that far from where you are Ann!

Not a wonderful way for these poor people to have to spend Easter...

I am adding my prayers to the group ..
