Thanks, erudita. On the "le parrain" line, I definitely think I see a "Hastings" reference at the end. I think Bridget (Cecilia's mother) had a sister named Mary Ann. Looking at this possibility, it seems like a pretty strong fit. What do you think?

You could be right, Mark. When I originally looked at the name, I thought I saw the Ann part and, looking at it again now, I do see that part of the name. So go with your possibility.

Ciao, everyone.

Can someone help me translate this 1915 Montreal death record? It's pretty faint and any French I once knew has more or less faded. The Jemima Sweeney that I'm looking for was born in 1850, so if this is indeed a hit then she would've been about 65 at death. Her married name was "Howe", but her husband died, I believe, in the late 1870's/early 1880's. She had 3 children. I don't know if she ever remarried, but I know that she appeared in the 1901 Census, as she was living in Montreal City (St. Laurent District 177) with several female relatives. In that record, she was listed as Jemima Howe, age 50. That's the "last" I know of her whereabouts.

It's hard to make out her complete age, but I can see that she was 50 something at death. The husband listed in this record looks like Francis Gavin. The date of death was May 21, 1915.
