I have the passenger manifest of my great grandfather Pasquale Tersigni I am having trouble reading 2 sections.

Hi StarV579 I do not know if this is much help my great grandfather was also a Domenico Lombardi which came from the town of Roccaspromente, Molise Italy. I know that region held alot of Lombardi's

Many Italians changed their surnames to make themselves more acceptable to English America. Italians were seen by many as uneducated labourers and at the bottom of the social scale. How do you tell people how Tersigni is spelled especially when you are illiterate yourself.

Thanks for all your replies..MeaAnne thanks for reply, My great grandfather was indeed Pasquale, he was 28 when he came to America in 1912. He first came to Canton NY then moved his family to Canton OH. He married Librata Pellegrino.

When all of his children wore born he changed all their last ...

Elllis Island was a huge help for me I was able to find the passenger manifest and what boat he came over on. They sent my both pictures of these. I owe Ellis Island for helping me find my family roots.
