Re: Cetta, DeRogatis, DiVito from Naples

Thank you, I'll give it a shot again.

I would be interested to hear from those out there who may know of these families in Naples. It sure is a small world, isn't it? I am finding out that Cetta and DiVito are very common in that area.

Re: Cetta, DeRogatis, DiVito from Naples

Thank you for responding. Yes, I wrote to them, in Italian, twice in the past couple of years and heard nothing. I am unable to visit the local family history centers as I don't have transportation. I tried what I knew to access what I can online, but appears to be a dead end.

Cetta, DeRogatis, DiVito from Naples

Re: Difficulty locating ship manifest and military records

I have not tried Ricbru. How do I find that?

I asked my mom about Antonina DiGirolomo and she said she may have been from Palermo or Calabria. Please bear in mind, my mother is 88 and gives me things in stages. She remembers at times. By the way, I agree it is DiGirolomo too.

Re: Difficulty locating ship manifest and military records

Peter, it is DiGirolomo. I know the spelling has probably changed over the years. I have found it in family records as; DiGirolamo with the A rather than the O, so I am not clear on wht it really is to be. Antonina and Salvatore married 1900, so I do not know if she would have traveled with her ...

Difficulty locating ship manifest and military records

Slowly, but surely the pieces are coming together except for finding the ship manifest for grandparents; Salvatore and Antonina (DiGirolomo form Gibellina Siicily in or around January 1900. They immigrated to Louisiana, so the story goes. I do not beleive they came through Ellis Island. Did they all ...

Re: What's in a name?

Thank you so much. This researching is truly an educating experience. I believe she was from Gibellina, Sicily Italy. At least I have something to go by.

Now that I have found her; my grandfather's grandmother, I'm sure it will be a real task to find her records.

What's in a name?

I have just found records that one of my Italian ancestors was named, Patti Nicolina. What would the name "Patti" be short for? It seemed a little unusual to see that written on a death certificate from 1898. Thanks
