Re: Photo ID. Golden Anniversary.
I found a Scime family living in East Orange, Jew Jersey in the late 1940s. Salvatore Scime was born about 1910, and his wife Marie was born about 1915. A newspaper article said they were "of Italian extraction," and had three children: Roger, Regina and Gregory. Roger was a young pianist.

Re: Moor or Less
Have you uploaded your DNA results to GedMatch? They have a large number of "tools" that compare your DNA to dozens of databases. I'm 1/4 Sicilian, and the GedMatch tools indicate that I have from 3% to 12% northwest African ancestry. Presumably, that's Moorish. Here's a scholarly study of...

Re: Noci in Bari Province
Hi Minnie,
Here's a Google map with rectangles around the places you mentioned. Noci has a double rectangle so it stands out from the others, and I put a circle around Bari.
Good luck with your search!

Re: Henry and Antonio
Hi Suanj, Thank you for the information about Antonio Pricolo. Unfortunately, the age of the Antonio Pricolo (married in New York on September 29, 1892) is not listed in the record on Ancestry.com. There were at least two other Antonio Pricolo’s living in New York City with wives and children at the...

Henry and Antonio
These notices were posted in different newspapers on the same day: May 14, 1864. The papers were published during the Civil War; one in a Confederate State, the other in a Union State. In Richmond, Virginia, G.W. Richardson offered a $200 reward for the return of his runaway slave, Henry. Richardson...

Re: Approximate date of picture
I think Mark's right. The back end of this 1927 Ford looks like the one in your picture. The trunk of both cars opens the same way - backward. Maybe both cars are convertibles, because each has the same bent metal armature behind the driver's window. Maybe that's there to fold the roof down?

Re: Approximate date of picture
I think there's a license plate above the bumper - if the original image is bigger, maybe you can see the numbers on it.

Re: The "peasant" lifestyle -- hard to break..?
Hi Mark, My great-grandmother from Colobraro was a lot like your grandmother. She came to the U.S. at age 16 but I remember that she spoke only broken English up to her death at age 95. I heard she was frugal, but raising nine children on a farm explains that. They grew almost everything they ate. I...

Re: meaning of "pompe"
Thanks to both of you for your thoughts on this. Google translated "pompe" as "pumps," which made no sense in the context of the emigrant's statements. The man also said the company that promoted the trip from Italy to Chile made extravagant claims about life in Chile. So, your &...
